In early December, when the first winter monsoon has just arrived, Moc Chau plateau ( Son La ) suddenly brightens up with the early blooming plum blossom season. The hillsides are covered in white, as light as mist, bringing a rare pristine scene and an off-season experience that makes tourists eager to come.
Off-season plum blossoms: early winter surprise
In recent years, growers in Moc Chau have applied cultivation techniques that help plum blossoms bloom about a month earlier. Thanks to that, right at the beginning of winter, instead of waiting for the usual time, visitors can stroll among the white plum trees, catching the color of the flowers while the mist is still lingering on the hills.
The cool air added to the crispness of the trip: a hint of damp grass, the rustling of leaves, and the white of the flowers contrasting with the brown of the plum trees on the hillsides. The landscape evoked a sense of peace, suitable for those who wanted to take photos, stroll, and breathe deeply.

Stroll between white hills and open gardens
On weekends, the early blooming plum gardens become attractive stops. According to the garden owner in Thao Nguyen ward, these days they can welcome 200 to 300 visitors/day. Tourists come to take pictures, experience and share on social networks, contributing to making the off-season flower season more exciting.
If you go with your family, you can combine a walk through the rose garden, the mustard garden and then return to the plum garden in the early morning or late afternoon for soft light. The open space and pure white background of the flowers help portraits and family photos become soft and easy to light.

Local influences
Mr. Nguyen Quang Ngoc, a tourist from Phu Tho , learned about the off-season flower season through social media and brought his family to Moc Chau for the weekend. He shared the feeling of relaxation when walking among rose gardens, mustard gardens and especially the white plum trees - a gentle schedule, suitable for "relieving" stress.
Ms. Nguyen Anh Tuyet, owner of a plum garden in Thao Nguyen ward, said that applying techniques to make the trees flower and bear fruit early helps to prolong the harvest season, while creating an attractive tourist destination: "The early-blooming plum garden creates an additional tourist attraction while also bringing high economic value." Thanks to visitors coming to experience and share on social networks, the garden attracts many visitors on weekends.
