Conveying the message of sustainable environmental protection.
Implementing the program to develop the multi-purpose value of forest ecosystems towards sustainable management and use, linked with biodiversity conservation and green economic development, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ha Tinh province has advised the province to issue and implement many practical mechanisms and policies. Based on this foundation, the "seed bomb" initiative, launched in 2025, stands out as a creative, accessible, and effective initiative, receiving positive responses from departments, agencies, localities, political and social organizations, and the community, especially students.

At Huong Minh Primary School (Vu Quang commune), small bins neatly placed on tables, bearing the message: "Instead of littering, sow seeds of love with seed bombs," have become a familiar sight. This simple message gently instills in each student an awareness of environmental protection through the smallest actions. Instead of plastic bags or plastic waste, the children hold jackfruit seeds, pine nuts, and lychee seeds collected from their gardens or along familiar village roads.

In a corner of the courtyard of Vu Quang High School (located in Vu Quang commune), teachers and students meticulously work on creating "green weapons." Seeds of valuable native forestry trees such as green lim, dổi, and trám are mixed with humus soil and skillfully molded into small "bombs." Sharing the significance of the activity, Mr. Tran Van Cat, the school's Vice Principal, said: "This is a very visual way to educate people about environmental protection. In the future, the school will continue to organize campaigns to collect valuable native forestry tree seeds and integrate them into experiential programs."
The movement quickly spread to many other schools such as Son Tho Primary and Secondary School, Phan Dinh Phung Secondary School, etc. Right in the buffer zone of Vu Quang National Park, the small hands of the students are contributing daily to the conservation of nature and the preservation of biodiversity in the forests of their homeland.

Not limited to schools, the "seed bomb" solution has been expanded by the Management Board of Ke Go Nature Reserve and Huong Son Forestry and Services Company Limited. Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Director of the Ke Go Nature Reserve Management Board, stated: "After collection, the seeds will be cleaned and preserved to ensure quality, free from fungi, mold, and bacteria; sorted into groups and evenly distributed across special-use forests (excluding strictly protected zones), protection forests, and production forests under the unit's management."

Nestled amidst the majestic Truong Son mountain range, Vu Quang National Park is considered a "green lung," preserving vast natural forests and a diverse ecosystem with many endemic plant and animal species. In recent years, thanks to the efforts of forest rangers and local authorities, forest protection and restoration work here has increasingly attracted the active participation of the community, linked to the goal of biodiversity conservation and sustainable forest development.
According to a representative of Vu Quang National Park: “With over 57,000 hectares of forest under its management, the unit has coordinated with schools to launch a campaign to collect seeds of valuable native tree species to implement ‘seed bombs.’ Unlike traditional reforestation methods that require large costs and concentrated manpower, ‘seed bombs’ are particularly suitable for hard-to-reach forest areas, contributing to accelerating the natural regeneration process and increasing the density of valuable native forest trees at a lower cost.”

Aiming to restore, regenerate, and enrich forests.
In reality, the "seed bomb" is not just a standalone initiative, but an effective supplementary solution to realize the Action Program implementing the Resolution of the 20th Congress of the Ha Tinh Provincial Party Committee, term 2025-2030, and the Project on developing the multi-purpose value of forest ecosystems until 2030, with a vision to 2050.

With its increasing reach, the province now has 8 state-owned forest owners who have proactively developed plans to implement the "seed bomb" model across a total area of over 200 hectares. The model has also been replicated in many schools, localities, and organizations, forming a practical social movement in the work of protecting and sustainably developing forests. More importantly, from these small seeds, the awareness of forest conservation is being sown in the hearts of the younger generation, so that they learn to cherish, protect, and coexist with nature.

Focusing on implementing the "seed bomb" solution is the optimal approach, harmonizing multiple objectives at the lowest cost. Not only does it save resources, but the movement also creates a strong ripple effect by attracting participation from many segments of the community, from students and citizens to social organizations.

Seeds sown directly under the forest canopy, upon germination, naturally adapt to the local soil, climate, and ecological conditions, enabling sustainable growth and minimizing human intervention. Furthermore, in the long term, this solution contributes to accelerating biodiversity, creating a food source for wildlife, promoting forest regeneration with many rare native forestry species, gradually restoring the original ecosystem, and increasing the sustainable value of the forest.

Mr. Le Ngoc Huan, Member of the Provincial Party Committee and Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, affirmed: “This is a feasible solution with low costs but a large ripple effect, effectively mobilizing social resources. In the long term, through the joint efforts of the community and the whole society, the “seed bomb” model with native forestry species will contribute to rebuilding the ecosystem in accordance with its natural structure, enhancing biodiversity; forming “multi-valued” forests that function to protect soil, conserve water, absorb carbon, and provide economic, ecological, cultural, and environmental values.”
We recognize this is not a short-term campaign, but a strategic step, linked to the goals for 2030 and subsequent phases in the formation of sustainable natural forests. We believe that, with the joint efforts of the entire society, this "seed bomb" will become an important foundation to help the province realize its goals of developing green forestry, adapting to climate change, conserving biodiversity, and building increasingly rich and sustainable forests.
