12,000 downloads per minute: Vietnam emerges as a global app powerhouse

Vietnam's game and application industry has grown by 65%, becoming the leading market in the Asia- Pacific region (APAC), according to a report at the Google Apps Summit 2025 event , held on November 12, in Ho Chi Minh City.

Every minute, there are 12,000 downloads of applications by Vietnamese programmers.

Mr. Marc Woo, General Director of Google Vietnam, commented that application developers in Vietnam are gradually asserting their position on the global technology map. He cited data from AppMagic showing that Vietnam is leading the APAC region with a 65% increase in revenue from the game and application segment.

In 2024, games and applications developed by Vietnamese programmers reached more than 6 billion downloads, with 5.7 billion coming from international users. This means that every minute, nearly 12,000 downloads of Vietnamese applications are recorded, on Google's system alone.

Through the Google Play ecosystem, app developers from Vietnam have brought in more than 2 trillion VND in revenue from international users. The game and app industry has also created about 490,000 jobs, including the device manufacturing sector (OEM).

"Vietnam is not only an emerging market, but also a global application powerhouse. Impressive export revenue has proven the outstanding talent of the Vietnamese programming community," said Mr. Marc Woo.

Vietnam becomes a bright star in the region

With the impressive achievements of the programming community, Vietnam was chosen as the venue for the regional unification conference - Google Apps Summit 2025.

For the first time, Google has combined three major regional events: Playtime, Think Apps, and Apps Summit into one seamless experience. The event brings together more than 700 app developers and senior leaders from Southeast Asia, India, China, Korea, Australia, and many other countries in the Asia- Pacific region. The conference focuses on the future of the gaming and app industry, introduces 10 growth tips for developers, and shares AI application solutions for global expansion.

"Choosing Vietnam as the host country of the event affirms Google's commitment to this dynamic ecosystem. The event also provides Vietnamese developers with the resources, networking opportunities and AI toolkits they need to continue expanding their position in the international market," said a Google leader.

Meanwhile, Mr. Aditya Swamy, Managing Director, Google Play, in charge of Southeast Asia, India and Australia, said that the future of the app economy will be based on smart and personalized experiences. Vietnam is at the forefront of this trend.

A Google representative said that Vietnam is emerging as a bright star in the global application programming industry due to its advantage of abundant human resources, a young generation of dynamic, daring and hard-working people. Google has brought leading programming experts from all over the world to Vietnam to exchange and seek cooperation opportunities.

Representative of the Vietnamese studio, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Khanh, CEO of Wolffun, said that the Vietnamese programming community always sets a big goal to succeed in the global market. Games like Thetan Arena, which has attracted more than 30 million users in a month, have shown that Vietnamese creativity can absolutely reach out to the world.

Mr. Khanh said that Vietnamese studios are also constantly innovating and applying the latest technology to improve performance and application quality. "Google Gemini is one of the secrets to our success. AI helps speed up the process, helps create product prototypes, increases the amount of advertising content by 40%, shortens the launch time, and helps us maintain a competitive advantage in the international market," Mr. Khanh shared.
