School environment aims for comprehensive development from culture to physical

The Draft Document of the 14th Congress affirms the goal: "Developing education and training to build Vietnamese people with knowledge, ethics, health, aesthetics and profession, meeting the requirements of industrialization, modernization and international integration". From that spirit, the implementation of the Project "Training and equipping students with basic knowledge of culture and art" is considered a correct direction, contributing to building a generation of dynamic, creative, healthy citizens with a rich spiritual life.

Nurturing the souls of young generations, spreading healthy lifestyles

In Nghe An , the construction and implementation of the Project was widely agreed upon by teachers and assessed as extremely necessary, especially in the context of implementing the 2018 General Education Program.

According to many teachers, this project is an important step to overcome the situation of "skewed learning", focusing too much on basic science subjects while inadvertently overlooking the importance of aesthetic and physical education.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh, Principal of Luong Minh Primary School for Ethnic Minorities (Luong Minh Commune, Nghe An) shared that in reality, students who regularly participate in cultural and sports activities will be more active, confident and have better life skills. This is something that the official curriculum sometimes cannot fully cover.

As the manager of a boarding school in a mountainous commune, Mr. Thanh believes that having more cultural, artistic, physical education and sports activities will help manage students better.

According to Mr. Thanh, because the school's students only get to visit home once every two weeks, on Saturdays and Sundays they often have a lot of free time and mostly play freely, which can easily lead to the risk of accidents and injuries.

Therefore, incorporating cultural, artistic, physical education and sports activities into the weekend program not only contributes to preserving and promoting national cultural identity, but also helps children improve their health and develop their talents; at the same time, creating a healthy, safe and beneficial living environment.

Principal of Luong Minh Primary School said that, depending on the region, schools in the mountainous areas of Nghe An can systematically introduce dances and folk songs of the Mong, Thai, Kho Mu, etc. into schools.

Besides, the State needs to support funding for training and fostering Music and Literature teachers or invite artisans to teach so that children can understand and love the heritage of their ancestors.

Regarding physical education and sports, teacher Dau Xuan Viet, a physical education teacher at Tuong Duong 1 High School (Tuong Duong Commune, Nghe An) said that currently, schools, especially in rural and mountainous areas, do not have standard sports grounds and training equipment is still lacking. Therefore, there needs to be a policy to invest in facilities to meet the learning needs of students.

According to Mr. Viet, the project should prioritize subjects that increase height such as: Basketball, volleyball, badminton, shuttlecock kicking... Regarding physical education, priority should be given to local strengths such as traditional sports (tug of war, stick pushing). In addition, establish sports clubs so that children can exchange, improve and practice their skills.

“A successful physical education lesson is when all students get to play and exercise. Students with poor health exercise less, while students with good health exercise more according to their abilities and interests, without being forced. Then students feel comfortable and happy to continue the cultural lesson without being affected,” Mr. Viet shared his opinion.

This teacher hopes that the project will create a playground for students, especially building enough facilities and standard sports equipment to make them more interested, bringing health and height to the "future of the country".

Towards a comprehensive educational environment

We hope that the Project “Training, equipping basic knowledge of culture and art and enhancing physical education and sports to improve physical fitness” will create positive changes in the educational environment.”

Many opinions believe that combining cultural education, arts and sports will help students develop harmoniously between intelligence, body and soul. Education managers also propose to increase the organization of tours to museums, theaters, historical sites; at the same time, encourage schools to coordinate with artists and professionals to guide students to experience and practice creativity.
