After an open letter calling for the exchange of giving students health insurance cards instead of flowers on Vietnamese Teachers' Day (November 20), by the end of November 19, To Hieu Primary School (Buon Ma Thuot City) had received support money equivalent to 43 health insurance cards for students.
November 20th this year is a special and memorable day for the teachers of To Hieu Primary School. There were no flower baskets or gifts sent to the school staff, but instead, there were practical amounts of money to help disadvantaged students receive health insurance cards to receive health care when they are unfortunately sick or ill (631,800 VND/health insurance card).
Ms. Doan Thi Tuyet Yen, the school's principal, shared that many of the school's students have extremely difficult family circumstances; moreover, the school is located in an ethnic minority village, so mobilizing 100% of students to participate in health insurance is very difficult. In the 2023-2024 school year, the school has 1,147 students; by early November, after checking, nearly 100 students had not participated in health insurance.
Faced with that situation, the school's Board of Directors discussed with the homeroom teacher and called each student's parents to find out the cause and find a solution.
Through discussion and dissemination of the objectives, significance and practical benefits of the health insurance policy, 40 parents have participated in health insurance for their children; the remaining 55 students, due to their families' difficult economic conditions, could not participate even though they wanted to. After the staff and teachers visited each of these students' families and grasped the reality, the school's Board of Directors decided to write the above open letter.
Representatives of the provincial Social Insurance Department presented funds to support the purchase of health insurance cards for students of To Hieu Primary School. |
According to Ms. Yen, every year on November 20, the school receives many congratulatory flower baskets but they can only be displayed for a few days before being thrown away, which is a waste. Meanwhile, many students at the school cannot participate in health insurance due to difficult family economic conditions, and when they get sick, they cannot afford to see a doctor or receive treatment. Therefore, receiving health insurance cards instead of flower baskets is also a meaningful and special gift for the school's staff and teachers on November 20 this year.
Previously, on the occasion of the Mid-Autumn Festival, instead of giving moon cakes to students in especially difficult circumstances, the school called on and mobilized benefactors to support more than 10 million VND to buy health insurance cards and personal insurance for 15 orphaned students. Ms. Do Thi Hang, Deputy Director of the Provincial Social Insurance, expressed that the school's work was of practical significance, demonstrating the care and concern of teachers and the whole society for students in especially difficult circumstances. These cards not only help children receive health care, reduce the economic burden on their families, but also contribute to ensuring social security. In particular, they create a ripple effect to everyone, every class in society to join hands to care for the younger generation.
