The General Secretary's wish for a young generation that is 'talented, compassionate, and resilient'

A young generation that is "both talented, kind and resilient" is one of the orientations that General Secretary To Lam pointed out to successfully carry out the cause of education and training innovation in the new period.

At the ceremony to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Education sector's tradition and the opening of the 2025-2026 school year, General Secretary To Lam emphasized a number of major orientations to successfully implement the cause of education and training innovation in the new period.

In which, the General Secretary pointed out the direction of comprehensive innovation in general education, not only imparting knowledge, but also nurturing personality - training the body - nurturing the soul, arousing civic spirit, sense of discipline and social responsibility; forming a generation of people who are "both talented, compassionate and resilient".

Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Thuy, Principal of Nguyen Sieu Secondary and High School (Hanoi) said that the message clearly showed the General Secretary's concern for the generation that will make Resolution 71-NQ/TW a reality.

“Today’s generation of Vietnamese students will be future global citizens. Education will make a breakthrough to reach the world if today’s students are cared for and develop their comprehensive capacity, following international trends,” Ms. Thuy shared.

According to Ms. Thuy, that orientation also helps to clearly shape the portrait of the Vietnamese generation in the era of rising up. The three core values ​​of "talented, benevolent, resilient" demonstrate the General Secretary's expectations for a new generation that develops comprehensive capacity but still does not forget its roots, maintains the traditional ethics of "learning manners first, then learning literature" and follows the resilient spirit of their ancestors to stand shoulder to shoulder with friends from all over the world.

“Not only with students, education managers like us are also more aware of the role of 'steering the boat' to achieve the expectations and wishes of the General Secretary. The education sector is entering a period of strong transformation, with the spirit of 'Discipline - Creativity - Breakthrough - Development'. But we cannot transform ourselves with just superficial changes, but must lie in the thinking, cooperation capacity and pioneering spirit of each subject in the education sector. More than ever, we need to proactively transform ourselves, from implementers to creators, from managers to leaders, from current operations to future designs,” Ms. Thuy emphasized.

The principal also hopes that with a clear orientation, everything will be for the betterment of the quality of students; from there, there will be a generation of intellectuals with a humane lifestyle and full of courage, confidently stepping out into the world but still maintaining Vietnamese identity.

Associate Professor Dr. Tran Thanh Nam, Vice Rector of the University of Education - Vietnam National University, Hanoi, said that this is a consistent viewpoint and has a profound strategic vision. "The comprehensive educational viewpoint is not only consistent with international trends but also meets the strategic requirements for developing Vietnamese people in the new era."

According to Mr. Nam, in the era of globalization and the 4.0 industrial revolution, Vietnam needs a generation of workers with high intellectual level, proficient digital skills, creative thinking and flexible adaptation to new career requirements. To face artificial intelligence and automation that are replacing human resources and the aging population, it is necessary to develop Vietnamese people in terms of physical, intellectual and personality.

To realize the 100-year goals, the new generation of Vietnamese people is both the driving force and the target of development. Therefore, Vietnamese education needs to be reformed in a comprehensive direction.

“This is a generation with a high level of education, logical thinking and lifelong learning capacity. This generation is not afraid to come up with and try new ideas, and has an entrepreneurial and innovative spirit. But besides that, it also needs to have a sense of community, ethics and civic awareness, global fortitude and great life experience. A generation with a strong will, not afraid of difficulties and challenges, maintaining national identity while still being open to absorbing the quintessence of humanity. This is the generation of people who are 'both talented, kind and resilient' as the General Secretary has set out.”

According to Mr. Nam, education is the decisive driving force. Therefore, it is necessary to have extensive reforms and determination to build a modern, humane, and integrated education system that contributes to the glory of the nation.

“Resolution 71-NQ/TW has created a strategic push with breakthrough solutions on educational equity, quality improvement, investment in developing the teaching staff; and innovation in governance. The educational ideology of creating a generation of people who are both talented, compassionate, and resilient will be a harmonious combination of national tradition, scientific spirit, and the aspiration to popularize education.

The 2025-2026 school year is therefore not just a new school year, but the beginning of a breakthrough period, where Vietnamese education confidently integrates internationally but still maintains national identity, taking students as the center and the country's future as the ultimate goal," said Mr. Nam.

“What I expect most is not only for the new school year 2025-2026 but also for the long term, which is to reduce cumbersome, costly, formal and empty opening ceremony ceremonies and procedures. I hope that the new school year will quickly and effectively implement the Law on Teachers and Resolution 71 of the Politburo so that education can gradually return to its original value - that is, "real learning", "real exams". And the more quickly Resolution 71 is put into practice, the sooner the country's education can truly reflect the phrase "breakthrough development" - Mr. Tran Trung Hieu, History teacher at Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted, Nghe An, shared.
