MU closes £45 million deal to replace Mainoo

MU are considering a loan deal for Conor Gallagher in the January 2026 transfer window, thereby paving the way for Kobbie Mainoo to leave Old Trafford.

According to the Daily Mail , the "Red Devils" want to negotiate with Atletico Madrid about a loan contract with a purchase clause worth around 45 million pounds. Gallagher has only played 4 matches this season and is looking for regular playing opportunities to score points with coach Thomas Tuchel ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

In fact, MU pursued Carlos Baleba (Brighton) in the summer of 2025 but was asked for too high a price. After that, they turned to Gallagher but Atletico only accepted a sale, forcing the deal to be put on hold. Now, when the midfield has revealed problems, coach Ruben Amorim wants to urgently add a comprehensive midfielder.

Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro remain Amorim's preferred duo, while Manuel Ugarte has yet to live up to expectations, while Mainoo has yet to make a single Premier League start this season.
