MU makes a decision regarding Onana. |
According to ESPN , Manchester United's management has determined that Onana is no longer part of their long-term plans, despite the 30-year-old goalkeeper's desire to return to compete for a starting position at Old Trafford.
Since joining Manchester United from Inter Milan in 2023 for a fee of around £44 million, Onana has made 102 appearances, conceded 150 goals and kept 24 clean sheets. He also contributed to Manchester United winning an FA Cup.
Last season, Onana was loaned to Trabzonspor after losing his place in the starting lineup. Meanwhile, the goalkeeping situation at MU is changing significantly. Altay Bayindir, who had six Premier League starts at the beginning of the season, is also expected to leave the club this summer.

Conversely, new signing Senne Lammens quickly secured the starting goalkeeper position after transferring from Royal Antwerp FC for €21 million. The Belgian goalkeeper made 30 appearances in the domestic league and became the first-choice goalkeeper for MU.
Nevertheless, the Old Trafford club still wants to add a quality goalkeeper to create depth in the squad, especially as the club will return to the Champions League next season.
Manchester United's biggest problem right now is finding a club willing to buy Onana outright. The Cameroonian goalkeeper's high salary is considered a major obstacle, deterring many clubs. Although his income decreased after MU failed to qualify for European competition last season, it is expected to increase again thanks to the team's qualification for the Champions League.
This means MU may have to agree to partially subsidize Onana's salary or significantly reduce the transfer fee if they want to part ways with him this summer.
