Leaders of the Hai Phong City Hydrometeorological Station informed that at around 3 p.m. on July 19, thunderstorms began to appear in the coastal areas of Hai Phong. Before that, the areas of Cat Ba and Cat Hai islands had experienced heavy rain.
The thunderstorm then gradually spread inland from the east to the west of the city. During the thunderstorm, the wind intensity reached level 5, gusting to level 6-7, causing many trees on traffic routes to fall and break branches.
According to the forecast, the total rainfall from 3-7 pm tonight in Hai Phong city may range from 20-40 mm.
The thunderstorms that occurred this afternoon in the coastal and mainland areas of Hai Phong City were not caused by the circulation of storm No. 3 (storm WIPHA) but by a low trough that has become stronger after many hot days.
Rain is still continuing in many areas of Hai Phong City. Experts recommend that from now on, if there is no need, people should not leave their homes and take proactive measures to ensure the safety of people and property.
The city's Hydrometeorological Station forecasts that around the night of July 21, storm No. 3 will directly impact coastal and inland areas, and wind and rain intensity will also gradually increase.
