According to the hydro-meteorological agency, at 4:00 p.m. on July 19, storm No. 3 was active in the northeastern sea area of the North East Sea. The strongest wind near the storm's center was level 10, gusting to level 12; the storm was moving west-northwest at a speed of about 20km/h and was likely to strengthen further.
At the same time, many provinces and cities in the North such as Hanoi, Bac Ninh , Ninh Binh... had thunderstorms with tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind.
According to Mr. Mai Van Khiem, Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the thunderstorms with strong winds in the northern provinces this afternoon were not due to the influence of storm No. 3.
Mr. Khiem said that this afternoon's thunderstorms in the North were formed due to wind convergence along a low trough across the North in a northwest-southeast direction. It is forecasted that around July 22, storm No. 3 will make landfall in our country, causing heavy rain in the North and North Central regions. However, the edge of the storm's circulation may cause thunderstorms in the mainland from the evening and night of July 20.
According to the Department of Hydrometeorology, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment , studies on thunderstorms and lightning in storms show that only a very small number of lightning bolts can be observed in the inner core of storms and tropical depressions. The decisive factor in the development of thunderstorms and lightning is the interaction between ice crystals in liquid water. Therefore, thunder, lightning or thunderstorms often appear outside the storm center (over 100 km) due to the combination with strong convective rain bands.
The Hydrometeorological Agency recommends that during storm and tropical depression warnings, it is necessary to pay attention to the appearance of thunderstorms and lightning to prevent and reduce unexpected risks.
