From the night of April 30 to the early morning of May 1, Bac Kan province experienced moderate to heavy rain, with rainfall ranging from 10mm to 57.4mm, accompanied by whirlwinds, causing damage to houses, crops and people's property.

According to preliminary reports from localities, more than 300 houses had their roofs blown off or were damaged. Of these, 16 houses were in Cho Don district, 7 houses were in Bach Thong district, 16 houses were in Bac Kan city, 90 houses were in Cho Moi district and Na Ri was the district with the most damage to housing with 228 houses having their roofs blown off.

Regarding agriculture and forestry, the whole province had more than 60 hectares of corn and acacia trees that were bent, broken and uprooted. In addition, heavy rain and whirlwinds also damaged a factory of BK Food Cooperative (Quang Thuan commune, Bach Thong district), broke an electric pole, and many trees fell, affecting the power line. Infrastructure works serving the Xuan Duong Love Market Festival were damaged. Thunderstorms and lightning also damaged some people's property such as televisions, ceiling fans, computers, printers, etc.

Mr. Luong Thanh Loc, Permanent Vice Chairman of Na Ri District People's Committee, said that heavy rain and whirlwinds caused considerable damage to Na Ri district, with 228 houses having their roofs blown off and nearly 60 hectares of forestry and corn trees damaged.

"Xuan Duong Love Market (the love market of Na Ri district) was blown down, causing damage to the tents, stages and stalls. The district is actively directing the communes and forces to repair the damage in time to serve the festival. According to the plan, the Cultural and Media Festival - Xuan Duong Love Market will open on the morning of May 2. Up to now, the repair work at Xuan Duong Love Market has been basically completed" - Mr. Loc added.

According to the Office of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control of Bac Kan province, localities have mobilized forces and means on the spot to support people in overcoming damage to their houses to stabilize their accommodation; mobilized forces to repair works serving the Xuan Duong Love Market Festival to promptly serve the festival as planned.
Along with that, the district and commune-level on-duty offices organize on-duty shifts, monitor weather developments, promptly inform people for prevention; and synthesize damage reports according to regulations.
