In the early hours of January 24th, the Vietnam U23 team defeated South Korea U23 7-6 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in 120 minutes of play. This result helped coach Kim Sang Sik's team finish the tournament in third place. Although it wasn't the final, the victory against a top-ranked opponent in the continent still brought many emotions to the fans.

Immediately after the penalty shootout, the celebratory atmosphere quickly spread throughout the country, especially in Hanoi . According to VTC News reporters at around 2:30 AM that day, thousands of people were still pouring into the streets to share in the joy of the U23 Vietnam team's victory.

On many major streets such as Nguyen Trai, Cau Giay, Kim Ma, Xa Dan, etc., long lines of people carrying red flags with yellow stars stretched out, cheering and waving flags incessantly, creating a vibrant atmosphere.

The chants of "Vietnam wins!" echoed through the city center, lasting for hours after the U23 Asian Cup third-place match.

At the Kim Lien underpass, a large crowd gathered, causing localized traffic congestion. Long lines of vehicles stretched at both ends of the tunnel as many people stopped, carrying national flags and cheering to celebrate the victory of the Vietnam U23 team.

Early this morning, Hanoi's temperature dropped sharply to around 9ºC, accompanied by light rain, making the air even colder. However, this did not seem to dampen the enthusiasm of the fans.

“The Vietnam U23 team played very resiliently, especially in the penalty shootout. The victory against South Korea brought a very different feeling, so I went out into the streets to celebrate with everyone,” shared Minh (Thanh Xuan).

"It wasn't a championship, but it was a very memorable victory. It was cold, but seeing the crowds and the streets filled with red flags with yellow stars made me feel much warmer," shared Thao Trang (20 years old, Cau Giay).

Fans celebrated wildly throughout the night following Vietnam U23's dramatic victory over South Korea U23.

At the end of this year's tournament, coach Kim Sang-sik's team finished third overall.

Historically, the only Southeast Asian representative to have achieved a higher ranking was the Vietnam U23 team in 2018, where they finished as runners-up.
