Interest for 1 week is equal to 8.3 years of savings
The financial market has experienced a volatile first week of the new year 2024. In particular, gold and foreign currencies seem to be "weaker" than stocks. After 1 week of trading, the VN-Index increased by 24.75 points, equivalent to 2.19% compared to the last session of 2023 to 1,154.68 points.
Although the VN-Index only increased by 2.19%, the market recorded many stocks with outstanding breakthrough momentum compared to the general level, especially stocks on the Hanoi Stock Exchange and UpCOM.
In general, in the whole stock market, after 1 week of trading, NDW of Nam Dinh Water Supply Joint Stock Company was recorded as the stock with the strongest growth momentum. NDW increased by 2,600 VND/share, equivalent to 40% to 9,100 VND/share.

Currently, the Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam ( Vietcombank ) is listing the 12-month term deposit interest rate at 4.8%/year. Thus, investors must deposit for 8.3 years to achieve the equivalent profit of 1 week of NDW.
The second stock with the strongest growth momentum is TKG, a stock of Tung Khanh Production and Trading Joint Stock Company. Last week, the market experienced 4 trading sessions, with TKG hitting the ceiling price in 3 sessions and remaining unchanged in 1 session.
After 1 week of trading, TKG increased by VND 2,800/share, equivalent to 34.1% compared to the last session of 2023.
Increasing slightly more than TKG is BED stock of Da Nang Book and School Equipment Joint Stock Company. Closing this weekend, BED stopped at 18,900 VND/share after increasing 4,600 VND/share, equivalent to 32.2%. Thanks to that, BED's market capitalization increased by 14.4 billion VND.
PRC shares of Portserco Logistics Joint Stock Company also had a successful week with 3 ceiling sessions and 1 slight decrease. After the first week of 2024, PRC increased by 6,900 VND/share, equivalent to 30.8% to 29,300 VND/share.
Big increase but not for the majority
Although the above stocks have increased very strongly, they are not for the majority because of their extremely low liquidity.
NDW brought in a 40% profit after just 1 week, but in fact, all the increase happened in the session of January 2. Notably, on this special day, NDW recorded only... 100 shares, equivalent to... 910,000 VND, successfully traded. In all the remaining sessions, NDW did not have any transactions.
NDW is a super tea stock on the stock market. NDW has a long time period standing far from its par value. At the same time, the company has a market capitalization of only 311 billion VND.
Although trading is more active than NDW, TKG is not for the masses. Looking at the trading performance, it can be seen that the major shareholders and leaders of this company are tending to "take over".
Specifically, in the first days of 2024, two major shareholders, Vu Khanh Hoa and Dinh Thi Thuy, successfully purchased 262,000 and 380,000 TKG shares. These are large numbers because the total outstanding shares of TKG are just over 6.3 million units.
In addition, from December 1, 2023, Mr. Dang Minh Khoi was appointed as Deputy Director of the company. By the end of November, Mr. Khoi registered to buy 1 million TKG shares, equivalent to 15.9% of TKG's capital. On January 2, Mr. Khoi's company had not purchased any shares, but on January 3, TKG's trading volume skyrocketed from 446,631 shares to more than 1 million shares.
Meanwhile, although BED increased by 32.2%, very few investors benefited because BED's scale was extremely modest. Currently, the volume of BED's outstanding shares is only... 3 million units. The average matched trading volume of these 10 sessions is only... 930 units. Most recently, in the session of January 5, only... 100 BED shares were traded.
In terms of charter capital, PRC is at “bottom” with only 1.2 million shares in circulation, equivalent to a charter capital of VND12 billion. Therefore, not many investors benefit from PRC’s sharp increase. PRC’s average matched trading volume in the last 10 sessions is less than 13,000 units.
