Amidst the thick fog and the crisp chill of the Pha Long highlands in the early morning, the workers diligently persevered, maintaining an uninterrupted pace of construction, hoping to soon complete a new school – a place to nurture knowledge and help fulfill the dreams of students in this border region of the Fatherland.

Maintaining the pace of construction in the border region.
In the days leading up to and during the Lunar New Year, Pha Long commune is often shrouded in a thick white fog. Low temperatures and prolonged cold weather make all outdoor activities difficult. However, at the construction site of the Pha Long Ethnic Boarding Primary and Secondary School, the atmosphere remains vibrant. The rumble of concrete mixers, the clanging of hammers striking rebar, and the shouts of workers blend together, creating a bustling rhythm amidst the border mountains.

Due to the harsh weather conditions, teams and crews were arranged to work flexibly in shifts, making the most of the rare sunny periods to carry out important tasks. Heavy work such as foundation excavation, rebar tying, foundation concrete pouring, steel fabrication, and material preparation were carried out simultaneously, ensuring continuous construction progress and preventing the construction site from becoming "cold" during the spring days.

Mr. Tran An Ninh, the site commander of Truong Son 28 Branch, said: “During the Lunar New Year holiday, everyone has their own family, everyone misses home and wants to go back to take care of their wives and children. But for the sake of the common good, to ensure the project's progress, the unit organized for the workers to work throughout the holiday. We tried to arrange shifts appropriately to ensure both the progress and the health of the workers.”

In the dormitory area, rows of foundation bricks are being laid, neatly and securely. In the classroom area, teams of workers are carefully installing reinforcing steel, preparing for the concrete pouring stage. Each person has a different role and task, but they all share the same goal: to complete the foundation work as soon as possible, creating a foundation for the simultaneous implementation of other items after the Lunar New Year, bringing the project to completion sooner.
A work of renewed faith and hope.
The construction project for Pha Long Ethnic Boarding Primary and Secondary School has been identified as a key project of Lao Cai province in the field of education in mountainous areas. However, the initial implementation phase faced many difficulties due to land clearance issues, complex terrain, and a lack of water for construction, affecting the progress.

Mr. Phung Tuan Diep, Project Management Director of the Lao Cai Provincial Investment and Construction Project Management Board, said: “This is a key project, of great importance to the development of education in the locality. During the Tet holiday, the Project Management Board directed the contractor to carry out construction throughout the holiday to make up for the delayed progress and strive to complete the project on schedule.”

In addition to intensified supervision, during the Tet holiday, the leaders of the Project Management Board were also present at the construction site to inspect, encourage, and give gifts to officials, engineers, and workers (photo above) . This timely attention further motivated the workers to feel secure and committed to the construction site.
The Pha Long Ethnic Boarding Primary and Secondary School is being built on an area of approximately 8 hectares, with a total investment of 220 billion VND. It comprises 11 buildings with complete facilities: an administrative building, classrooms, subject-specific buildings, a boarding area, teacher's staff quarters, a multi-purpose hall, a cultural center, a canteen and kitchen, and supporting technical infrastructure. Upon completion, the project will accommodate 28 classes, serving approximately 980 students.

To date, site leveling work for the entire area has reached over 90%. Many items have completed the concrete floor slabs of the first level, and the steel reinforcement for the columns of the second level of the primary school block is currently being erected. The first boarding house has completed the concrete foundations and column bases and is currently constructing the foundation walls. During the Tet holiday, the contractor continued excavating the foundations, pouring foundation beams, and building foundation walls to prepare for the peak construction phase after the holiday.
Amidst the biting cold of the Pha Long highlands, the workers diligently built walls, tied steel, and mixed concrete, creating a beautiful image of unwavering dedication to the construction site during the spring days, deeply moving many.

Giàng Seo Phừ, a construction worker on the project, shared: “I miss home a lot, but I'm trying to stay because of the project's progress. Currently, we are working on the foundation, and we hope the project will be completed soon so that the students can have a new, spacious school.”

Sharing the same sentiment, engineer Tran Chung Ket, who is directly in charge of constructing the building blocks of the project, confided: "Celebrating Tet at the construction site is a bit bittersweet because we can't go home to our families, but we encourage each other to keep trying. Thinking about the fact that the children in the commune will be able to study in the new school in the future, everyone feels warmer inside."

In the engineer's eyes, one could clearly see the hardship after long days at the construction site, but also the glimmer of faith and pride. Because more than anyone else, he understood that beneath each layer of concrete poured lay not only the foundation of a building, but also the foundation of the future—the future of the children of the highlands, of knowledge being "sown" in this remote border region.

Working through the Lunar New Year holiday on the school construction site in Pha Long commune, a border region, is not just about meeting deadlines, but also about responsibility and the silent dedication of those who choose to stay and work for the future of the next generation. From these days of "staying at the construction site during spring," a brighter future is gradually being built for the students in this mountainous region – where dreams are nurtured on the foundation of faith and dedication.
