On the first day of Tet, the North experiences cold weather, while the Central region has rain.

A moderately strong cold front is forecast to affect Northern Vietnam in the early morning of the first day of the Lunar New Year (Year of the Horse) and cause scattered rain in Central Vietnam.

According to the National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting, a cold front is currently moving southward and will affect the mountainous areas of the Northeast region around dawn on February 17th (the first day of Tet). From late afternoon to night, its influence will expand to the plains and Northwest region (excluding Lai Chau and Dien Bien ).

Northern Vietnam will have favorable weather for the last two days of the Year of the Snake, with scattered fog in the early morning and sunshine in the afternoon. The highest temperatures will be 23-27 degrees Celsius, 28-31 degrees Celsius in the Northwest; the lowest temperatures will be 16-20 degrees Celsius, with some mountainous areas experiencing temperatures below 16 degrees Celsius.

From the night of the 1st, the cold air mass intensified, causing the weather to turn cold, with some mountainous areas experiencing severe cold. The highest temperatures were generally 19-23 degrees Celsius, with some areas in the Northwest exceeding 26 degrees Celsius; the lowest temperatures were 16-19 degrees Celsius, and below 14 degrees Celsius in mountainous areas.

From the 4th to the 6th day of Tet (Lunar New Year), there will be light rain in some areas, with light fog in the mornings. The weather will remain cold at night and in the morning. The highest temperatures will be 22-25 degrees Celsius, 24-27 degrees Celsius in the Northwest; the lowest temperatures will be 17-20 degrees Celsius, with some mountainous areas experiencing temperatures below 15 degrees Celsius.

The area from Thanh Hoa to Hue will experience scattered rain in the last two days of the year, with fog in the early morning and sunshine in the afternoon. The highest temperature will be 25-28 degrees Celsius, and the lowest 19-22 degrees Celsius.

From the 1st to the 3rd day of Tet (February 17-19), scattered rain and showers will occur. In the North, it will be cold with a maximum temperature of 21-23 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 16-20 degrees Celsius; in the South, the maximum temperature will be 24-26 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature will be 20-22 degrees Celsius. After the 4th day of Tet, the rain will decrease, with a maximum temperature of 27 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 18 degrees Celsius.

The South Central Coast region will experience sunny days and scattered showers at night from the 28th of the 12th lunar month to the 6th day of the Lunar New Year. The northern part of the region will have scattered rain, with thunderstorms in some areas, from the 1st to the 3rd day of the Lunar New Year. Maximum temperatures will generally range from 27-31 degrees Celsius; however, in the northern areas affected by cold air, temperatures will drop to 25-27 degrees Celsius, with a minimum of 21 degrees Celsius.

The Central Highlands will experience little rain throughout the Tet holiday, with sunny days. Maximum temperatures will be 27-31 degrees Celsius; minimum temperatures will be 16-20 degrees Celsius, with some areas below 15 degrees Celsius. Southern Vietnam will maintain sunny days, with scattered showers and thunderstorms in the evening and at night. Maximum temperatures will be 30-34 degrees Celsius, with some areas in the East exceeding 34 degrees Celsius; minimum temperatures will be 22-25 degrees Celsius.

On the evening of February 14th, the National Steering Committee for Civil Defense requested that provinces and cities in Northern Vietnam, including Thanh Hoa, closely monitor warning and forecast bulletins regarding the development of the cold front and severe cold weather, and promptly inform local authorities and the public so that appropriate preventive measures can be taken.

The Steering Committee suggested that, in response to the severe cold weather, special attention should be paid to ensuring people's health; and that the use of charcoal stoves for heating in enclosed rooms should be avoided to prevent loss of life.

At the same time, localities are implementing guidelines for livestock farmers to reinforce and shelter their barns; stockpile feed, keep livestock and poultry warm, and prevent and control diseases; and provide guidance on measures to ensure safety for rice, vegetable, and other crop production.
