On May 13, the US Mission to Vietnam announced the Fulbright Vietnamese Teaching Assistantship (FLTA) program for the 2026 academic year. The program is organized to celebrate the 30th anniversary of US-Vietnam diplomatic relations.
Candidates are selected based on academic and professional achievements; regardless of race, skin color, nationality, gender, age, religion, disability...
The FLTA is a 9-month, non-degree, full-time scholarship specifically designed for full-time English teachers and those working in related fields with no more than 7 years of teaching experience.
The program provides participants with the opportunity to improve their teaching skills and English proficiency, while expanding their knowledge of American society and culture while serving as Vietnamese language teaching assistants to American students and enhancing Vietnamese language instruction at American universities. Fulbright FLTA Vietnamese Teaching Assistants interact with their host schools through conversation groups, extracurricular activities, and community projects.
In this program, participants will work as teaching assistants for language classes for up to 20 hours/week and are required to enroll in at least 2 courses/semester, including 1 course related to American studies.
This year, the program will select and nominate up to 5 official candidates and 2 alternate candidates from Vietnam. The FLTA scholarship includes round-trip airfare to the US, monthly living expenses, health insurance, and tuition waiver for required courses.
The program is open to eligible candidates who are Vietnamese citizens and reside in Vietnam throughout the application process; have at least 1 university degree; are working as an English teacher or in a related field (no more than 7 years of teaching experience); have a valid English score, minimum level with TOEFL iBT 79, IELTS 6.5, Duolingo 110, TOEFL Essentials 8.5.
