(CLO) In the 2025 Hien Quan festival season, when receiving the notice that the phet beating would not be held, many people regretfully left.

On January 12 and 13, At Ty (February 9 and 10, 2025), the Phet Hien Quan festival in 2025 (Hien Quan commune, Tam Nong district, Phu Tho province) will be held again.

On the first day of the festival, the Phet procession moved from the communal house to Hien Quan temple. Locals and tourists eagerly followed the Phet procession from the communal house to the temple, watching the elders perform the ceremony.

The ritual committee organized the incense offering and sacrifice ceremony according to traditional rituals. These are cultural features that have been preserved and promoted by Hien Quan villagers for many generations. However, when they received the notice that the beating would not be held, the villagers left in dismay.

Phet Hien Quan Festival has existed for thousands of years, since the time of Hai Ba Trung. The festival is held on the 12th and 13th of the first lunar month every year.

The festival honors the martial spirit and commemorates two tutelary deities: Princess Thieu Hoa - a female general of the Trung sisters' time who fought against the enemy, and King Moc Trang of the Dinh dynasty - who defeated the 12 warlords.

According to legend, to train soldiers, Princess Thieu Hoa created the practice of carving bamboo roots into round shapes, the larger ones were called phet, the smaller ones were called chui.

The festival consists of four parts: palanquin procession, ceremony, troop march and phet robbery. When organizing phet robbery, young people in the village compete to bring phet home with the hope of a lucky year.

In previous years, the festival attracted tens of thousands of people and tourists. The highlight of the Hien Quan festival is the phet beating.

However, as the scale of the festival grew, there were seasons when thousands of people fought over the fruit, causing the fruit-stealing group to temporarily stop.

From 2019 to present, Hien Quan festival has not had a beating part because the Organizing Committee has not completed the script and has not ensured safety factors.
