In 2025, more than 900 houses in Dong Thap were affected by natural disasters.

(DTO) According to the People's Committee of Dong Thap province, in 2025, due to the impact of riverbank erosion, land subsidence, and thunderstorms and tornadoes, many houses of people in the area were damaged.

Specifically, natural disasters affected 903 houses, of which 107 were completely destroyed (26 due to landslides and land subsidence; 81 due to storms and tornadoes) and 796 were affected, damaged, or had their roofs blown off (58 due to landslides and subsidence; 738 due to storms and tornadoes).

Immediately after the natural disaster occurred, departments, agencies, and localities in the province quickly implemented response measures according to the "four on-the-spot" principle, promptly mobilizing forces and resources to support people in overcoming the consequences, ensuring the safety of lives and property, and minimizing damage.

From the Disaster Prevention and Control Fund, Dong Thap province has allocated 5.534 billion VND to support 24 communes in overcoming damage caused by the remnants of typhoon No. 3; including support for 54 households whose houses were destroyed, swept away, or severely damaged with a total budget of 2.16 billion VND (40 million VND/household) according to Decision No. 912/QD-UBND dated September 30, 2025 of the People's Committee of Dong Thap province.

At the same time, continue to direct the Department of Agriculture and Environment to take the lead in coordinating with agencies, units, and localities to review and assess the damage caused by the peak flood combined with high tides, the impact of typhoon No. 10 and the remnants of typhoon No. 11, as a basis for implementing solutions to support the early recovery of damage, restore production, and stabilize the lives of the people according to regulations.

Despite the achievements, disaster prevention, control, and mitigation efforts in Dong Thap province still face many challenges. Natural disasters are complex and occur simultaneously in various forms such as thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, and riverbank erosion, causing significant damage to housing, especially for households living along rivers, canals, and areas at high risk of landslides.

The affected households are primarily poor households, near-poor households, social welfare beneficiaries, and households with difficult circumstances and limited ability to repair, rebuild, or restore their homes on their own.

In addition, allocating land and safe, long-term housing for households whose homes have collapsed, been destroyed, or swept away by natural disasters remains challenging; some houses were built a long time ago, have simple structures, and do not meet safety requirements against natural disasters.

Resources for disaster relief, especially housing support for severely affected households, are limited compared to actual needs, impacting the progress in stabilizing people's lives after the disaster.

To promptly support households whose houses were destroyed, swept away, or severely damaged by natural disasters in 2025, contributing to stabilizing the lives of people in the province, the People's Committee of Dong Thap province has requested the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to compile and propose to the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front to provide financial support for the construction and repair of houses for households severely affected; prioritizing cases of houses destroyed, swept away, especially poor households, near-poor households, social welfare beneficiaries, and households with particularly difficult circumstances, in order to help people quickly stabilize their housing and lives after natural disasters.
