The new format is exciting.

Of these, the three main tournaments will remain the National Championship, the Hung Vuong Cup, and the Hoa Lu Cup. The National Championship, in particular, promises to be more exciting than in previous years thanks to its new format.

According to the Vietnam Volleyball Federation, Phase 1 this year will take place from April 6th to 19th in Dong Anh (Hanoi). Phase 2 and the final round will be held separately. The women's competition will take place in Vinh Long from October 14th to 25th. Meanwhile, the men's competition will be held at the Ho Chi Minh City Police Sports Center from October 28th to November 8th.

What's special this year is that, for the first time in history, the National Volleyball Championship has been expanded to two rounds, a home and away match.

Thus, each club will play 14 group stage matches (instead of 7 matches like last season). After the two stages are completed, the organizers will select the top 4 teams to advance to the final round to compete for the championship, and the remaining 4 teams will compete for ranking.

With the number of matches for each team doubled, fans will get to witness more games. In particular, matches between strong teams such as Border Guard, Ho Chi Minh City Police, and The Cong Tan Cang (men's category) or VTV Binh Dien Long An, Information Corps, LPBank Ninh Binh, and Duc Giang Chemical (women's category) will be played at least twice. Thus, not only the quantity but also the quality of the tournament will be significantly improved.

This also marks the first time in many years that the National Volleyball Championship has returned to the southern localities (Ho Chi Minh City and Vinh Long). This is also a new feature of this year's tournament. And as usual, before and after the first phase of the National Championship, there will be the Hoa Lu Cup and the Hung Vuong Cup, respectively.

These are long-standing and prestigious tournaments, where the strongest volleyball teams in Vietnam compete.

A packed schedule

Besides the annual tournaments, this year Vietnamese volleyball also has two more promising competitions. First and foremost is the VTV9 - Binh Dien Cup, held in May.

This tournament was established in 2006 for women's clubs. Initially, it was held annually. However, from 2024, the organizers decided to switch to a biennial format. This year, the VTV9 - Binh Dien Cup will be held in Tay Ninh.

The reason this tournament is so highly anticipated, besides its tradition, is the participation of foreign teams. Because the foreign guest teams are usually very strong and high-quality, no Vietnamese team has won the title in the past 10 years.

The remaining tournament is the National Sports Festival at the end of the year in Ho Chi Minh City. This event takes place every four years, so the gold medal is very valuable. By now, quite a few strong teams have shown interest in participating in the festival.

With five tournaments, plus several international competitions interspersed, Vietnamese volleyball will have a busy year.

Besides a host of international tournaments, Vietnamese volleyball fans can look forward to a year with many exciting domestic competitions.
