Named among the top graduating students with a GPA of 3.8 and the title of valedictorian in Mechanical Engineering, Tran Nguyen Minh Nhat (born in 2003) couldn't hide his surprise. Especially since Nhat also received a medal – an award for the top student in his major.
"I studied many specialized subjects with senior students, so I could guess that my grades would be in the high group. However, because I was taking an accelerated course, I didn't think I would 'steal' the medals from the seniors," Nhat shared.

Nhat said that he had clearly outlined his plan early on and always maintained a spirit of genuine learning and understanding, rather than cramming or rote memorization just to pass the course on time.
Accordingly, from the very first days of entering university, the male student set a goal to accelerate his studies in order to shorten his graduation time by one year, instead of the five years required by the standard PFIEV program (Program for Training High-Quality Engineers in Vietnam).
"Luckily, I encountered many favorable factors, so I was always able to maintain the progress according to the plan," Nhat said.
Furthermore, Nhật believes that passion and self-learning are key factors in helping him learn quickly, understand deeply, and apply knowledge effectively. For Nhật, when you truly love a field, self-learning, research, and expanding your knowledge must come from a proactive approach, not from coercion.
"This is a major I truly enjoy and am passionate about, so I don't feel bored when I focus on studying and researching, which helps me maintain academic discipline," he added.
In particular, recent graduates in Mechanical Engineering also apply a cross-learning method with their friends: "I will help my friend build a foundation in chemistry, and my friend will help me build a foundation in physics."
For Nhật, this learning method helps him save a lot of time and keeps up with many subjects at the same time.

Besides his studies, Minh Nhật is also a core member of the Bach Khoa Tutoring Club (Photo: Provided by the interviewee).
Not only did he graduate a year early, but the male student also completed two scientific research papers, won seven academic achievement scholarships, and received two scholarships from non-profit organizations and businesses.
Surprisingly, Nhật not only focused on his coursework but also dedicated time to completing tasks at his internship company and working on projects at the tutoring club he was a member of.
Although Minh Nhat is quite good at time management and organizing work, he admits that he has often felt overwhelmed and has had to "sacrifice" a lot of sleep and rest time due to the excessive workload.

For the top-scoring male student, success is not a solitary journey, but also comes from the companionship and support of many people around him (Photo: Provided by the interviewee).
In the future, Minh Nhat plans to continue his studies in the master's program while maintaining his research on organic semiconductor polymers and self-healing polymers.
Japan's goal is to create new materials with practical applications, while also aiming for international scientific publications and opportunities for academic exchange and research abroad.
