On February 8th, in Ho Chi Minh City, the Committee on Delegate Affairs of the 15th National Assembly, in coordination with the National Ethnic Council and the Committee on Culture and Society of the 15th National Assembly, organized a training conference for first-time candidates for the National Assembly who are women and ethnic minorities from the Central, Central Highlands, and Southern regions.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Dong, Chairman of the National Assembly's Delegation Affairs Committee of the 15th term; Mr. Nguyen Lam Thanh, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly's Ethnic Council ; and Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai Hoa, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly's Culture and Social Affairs Committee of the 15th term, co-chaired the conference.
The conference was attended by 160 candidates for the 16th National Assembly , including women, ethnic minorities, and full-time National Assembly representatives from provinces and cities in the Central, Central Highlands, and Southern regions.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Dong, Chairman of the Committee on Delegate Affairs of the 15th National Assembly, emphasized that the Party and State of Vietnam have always paid special attention to continuously improving the proportion and quality of representation of women and ethnic minorities in elected bodies – those who bring the practical spirit and unique voices of women and ethnic minorities to the parliamentary arena.
The conference contributed to helping candidates for the National Assembly, especially women and ethnic minorities, gain confidence, assertiveness, and the necessary "preparation" before entering the election campaign. The conference helped candidates understand legal regulations and equipped them with the necessary skills to build an image of an exemplary representative in the eyes of voters.
Candidates for the 14th National Assembly attending the conference demonstrated a proactive and positive spirit, using the knowledge gathered at the conference to develop effective and feasible action programs. These programs should reflect pressing local issues, from the implementation of the National Target Program on the development of ethnic minority areas to policies supporting women's entrepreneurship, healthcare, and education in remote and ethnic minority regions; they should adhere to the National Assembly's functions of legislation, supervision, and decision-making on important issues; and they should leverage their individual identities and strengths.
The leaders of the National Assembly's Committee on Delegate Affairs also reminded candidates for the 16th National Assembly to comply with the law on election campaigning, ensuring democracy, transparency, and equality; and to win the trust of voters through their talent, dedication, and moral character as representatives of the people's will and aspirations.
Over the course of a single day, candidates for the 16th National Assembly will receive an overview of the National Assembly, the election process; the participation of women and ethnic minorities in the National Assembly; experiences in selecting the content of action programs for female candidates; experiences in selecting the content of action programs for ethnic minority candidates; and skills in developing and presenting action programs. Participants will practice developing and presenting action programs; share experiences; and practice communicating with the press and media during election campaigns.
