The Central Highlands is the largest coffee growing region in the country in terms of area and output. However, due to many reasons, the value of the coffee industry in the Central Highlands has not yet met expectations.

In recent years, Vietnam's coffee export turnover has increased, but mainly due to rising world coffee prices, not due to improved quality.

The report of the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association analyzed: For many years, localities have only focused on developing acreage without instructing farmers on harvesting techniques and post-harvest preservation processes to increase the quality of coffee beans. In addition to the production stage, the current coffee preservation and processing stage also has many problems. Drying yards, drying equipment, milling machines, coffee screening machines, and processing, packaging, and preservation facilities are not guaranteed, so they also affect the quality of Vietnamese coffee beans. According to analysis, green coffee harvesting reduces 20-30% of output, causing a loss of 100,000 tons of products each year. The selling price of coffee due to green harvesting decreases by 10-15%, causing losses for growers, processors, and coffee consumers...

In addition, according to the National Agricultural Extension Center, the Central Highlands coffee industry and the whole country are facing many challenges in the process of sustainable development, especially weaknesses in waste management and the use of agricultural materials. Therefore, to improve the quality of coffee, it is necessary to raise awareness among agricultural extension officers, community extension officers, farmers, coffee producers and partners about the harmful effects of using pesticides on the environment.

At the same time, it is necessary to strengthen the application of integrated pest management, integrated plant health management, and apply safe production processes to replace and minimize the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides in cultivation. In addition, focus on guiding farmers to apply waste collection and management measures in coffee production; enhance responsibility for using agricultural inputs (seeds, pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, irrigation water, etc.) effectively; contribute to improving product quality, protecting public health and protecting the ecological environment, etc.
