Many potential risks
Although the electrical system in the house was replaced last summer, since the beginning of the dry season this year, Ms. Phan Thi Yen's family in Ward 5 (Tuy Hoa City) has had an electrician check all the electrical lines and equipment in the house. She removed all the electrical appliances that were no longer safe and installed anti-leakage devices... Ms. Yen said: Last year, the electrical system in my house had a short circuit, causing a fire in the kitchen. Luckily, the neighbors discovered it, shouted and called the fire department in time, and my children were rescued. After checking, the authorities said the cause of the fire was an electrical short circuit in the outlet in the kitchen while the rice cooker was plugged in. From this painful lesson, I always remind my children to raise awareness in using electricity. Unplug all electrical appliances that are not in use. Every time I go out, I check all the outlets and electrical equipment, making sure that all are turned off.
Members of Ms. Yen’s family began to change their habits and become more conscious about using electricity at home after the fire. “Previously, the whole family was quite subjective in preventing electrical fires, only turning off unused devices without unplugging them, or devices such as rice cookers and water heaters were often plugged in all day… That was the cause of the house fire last year,” Ms. Yen said.
Each citizen, each household, and production facility needs to consider the prevention of electrical short circuits and fires as a personal responsibility, not relying on the authorities or the power supply unit. Proactiveness, awareness, and proper handling skills will contribute to protecting the home and the surrounding community. On the part of the Electricity sector, Phu Yen Electricity Company has deployed maintenance and reinforcement of the power grid system, especially in densely populated areas, industrial parks, and rural areas; periodically checking the load of transformer stations, trying to avoid overloading.

According to Phu Yen Electricity Company, many people are still very subjective and lack knowledge in using electricity in their households, which is the main cause of electrical short circuits and explosions that cause damage to property and lives. Very common habits of many families are plugging too many devices into the same electrical outlet; using many high-capacity electrical devices at the same time; using steel wire, nails to hang hooks, tie electrical wires; pulling electrical wires on corrugated iron roofs; charging phones, electric motorbikes, electric bicycles, and electrical devices overnight; arbitrarily connecting electricity...
Propaganda, raising public awareness
In order to limit the situation of electrical short circuits and explosions, right from the beginning of the dry season, Phu Yen Electricity Company and its affiliated power companies have proactively coordinated with local authorities to organize propaganda and instruct people on how to use electricity properly, ensuring safety in preventing fire and explosions during the hot season in households, markets and production and business establishments...
Mr. Tran Ngoc Phuoc, Director of Phu Hoa Power Company, said: Since the beginning of March, Phu Hoa Power Company has coordinated with local authorities to carry out many propaganda campaigns on safe electricity use. All 50 officers and workers of the unit have not been afraid of difficulties, actively deployed, distributing nearly 4,000 leaflets with instructions on how to effectively prevent electrical short circuits and fires. The propaganda teams also directly supported the inspection of electrical systems at facilities and households, guiding people to overcome existing problems of the electrical system, improving safety in the process of using electricity of customers. In particular, we prioritize inspection and propaganda at facilities with high risk of fire and explosion, crowded with people such as markets, karaoke bars, houses combined with production, business, production facilities, etc.
According to Tuy An Electricity, during this period, the unit has integrated instructions on safe, economical and efficient use of electricity with checking the electrical system after the meter for customers. To improve efficiency, in addition to direct propaganda, the unit also propagates through many other channels such as: propaganda through clips at transaction offices, through digital platforms, social networks, through local radio channels, etc.
Head of Safety Department of Phu Yen Electricity Company Huynh Dang Toan said: To contribute to limiting the risk of electrical short circuits and fires, everyone needs to pay attention to using electricity safely and economically, especially during peak hours of the day. People should install automatic power-off devices to prevent overload and short circuits for electrical lines in the house and prevent overheating for each electrical device, especially high-capacity electrical devices. Each family needs to periodically check, maintain and service the electrical system and electrical devices to be able to promptly detect and fix risks and signs of unsafety, limiting the risk of electrical short circuits and fires.
