In an interview with Da Nang Newspaper and Radio & Television , Ms. Le Thi Kim Phuong, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Da Nang City, shared the development orientation of the "Trust in Vietnamese Goods - Made in Da Nang" ecosystem along with synchronized solutions to enhance the value of local products.

* Madam, how is the city directing the development of products linked to local identity?
- After the administrative boundary consolidation, Da Nang possesses a rich source of raw materials and cultural space, including agriculture , medicinal herbs, traditional crafts, and cuisine.
The city is orienting the development of local products by integrating existing advantages into the common brand ecosystem "Trust in Vietnamese Goods - Made in Da Nang," in which identity is considered the core competitive foundation.
The implementation focuses on three groups of solutions. Firstly , leveraging the advantages of the raw material source and cultural characteristics of traditional craft villages, especially key products such as Ngoc Linh ginseng and medicinal herbs. The city is standardizing production processes, supporting brand building, promoting marketing, and forming a closed value chain for these products.
Secondly , leverage the strengths of trade, services, and tourism . Products linked to local identity are positioned according to specific customer groups; promotion at destinations and tourism events is enhanced; exhibition spaces are expanded, and digital communication is promoted. The goal is for local products to "accompany the Da Nang experience"—selling well in supermarkets while also becoming gifts bearing the distinctive mark of Da Nang's identity.
Thirdly , the city focuses on developing high-quality products for both domestic and export markets. It concentrates on raising standards along the value chain: from packaging and labeling to traceability and quality standardization. Each product must tell the story of its source, community, and culture.
Local identity is not only a medium for communication but also a criterion for certification and inclusion in the "Made in Da Nang" ecosystem. This is an advantage that helps local products enhance their value, increase competitiveness, and achieve sustainable development in both domestic and international markets.

* Could you share the coordinating role of the Department of Industry and Trade in the ecosystem supporting local products?
- Within this ecosystem, the Department of Industry and Trade focuses on improving production capacity and promoting trade - developing markets, supporting businesses to improve quality, expand distribution channels and enhance brand recognition through industrial promotion programs, supporting industries, trade promotion, e-commerce development, etc.
At the same time, the unit plays a coordinating role, ensuring seamless connectivity between businesses and agencies and organizations within the ecosystem, from product evaluation and refinement to market expansion.
In addition, agencies such as the Department of Science and Technology, incubators, and innovation funds are responsible for enhancing business capacity, providing funding, building pilot models, introducing new technologies, and supporting brand development.
Through this coordination mechanism, the Department of Industry and Trade acts as the focal point for "connecting" public and private resources, linking technological inputs with market outputs, and monitoring quality criteria and product standardization to ensure consistency in the support process.
This coordination helps create a comprehensive approach in the implementation of business support policies from both the city and the central government, ensuring that businesses receive continuous support in areas ranging from production and technology to markets and competitiveness.
As a result, businesses only need to access one point of contact but receive support from the entire innovation-technology-market ecosystem, helping to shorten the process of upgrading products and expanding markets sustainably.
* According to you , which factor plays a key role?
- In the ecosystem supporting local product development, people, standards, technology, and regional linkages are all important and closely interconnected factors.
However, if I had to choose one decisive factor, I would say that "people and effective enforcement institutions" are the key throughout. Because standards, technology, or regional linkages are merely tools; it is people who determine the level of compliance with standards, the ability to adopt technology, and the effectiveness of coordination among stakeholders.
Therefore, the project to build and develop brands for typical products of Da Nang city, "Trust in Vietnamese Goods - Made in Da Nang," focuses on innovating policy-making methods, shifting from widespread support to conditional support based on actual results.
The city empowers businesses, especially industry associations, to be not just beneficiaries but also leaders, monitors, and those who elevate the value chain.
In addition, the support of the community – through the Fatherland Front and social organizations – plays a crucial role in protecting market confidence in the long term.
When the government creates a favorable environment, businesses proactively innovate, and the people actively support local products, the ecosystem will function efficiently and sustainably.
In summary, institutions and people are key factors determining the speed, quality, and sustainability of the Made in Da Nang product brand, while standards, technology, and regional linkages play a role in accelerating and elevating the ecosystem.
* In your opinion, what can local authorities do to support local products in meeting standards and entering modern distribution systems?
- From the perspective of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, supporting local products to meet standards for participation in modern distribution systems requires the collaboration of the entire political system and management agencies in many fields.
In this context, local authorities play a particularly important role because they are the level of direct access, quickly and accurately grasping the needs, strengths, and difficulties of businesses, cooperatives, and production households in the area.
Communes and wards can proactively conduct reviews and identify distinctive products; provide guidance on improving quality standards, food safety, labeling, and traceability.
In addition, the locality can organize training on packaging, technical standards, and e-commerce; support the registration of product codes, barcodes, and QR codes; and encourage participation in the OCOP program and other capacity-building activities of the city.
At the same time, coordinate with the Department of Industry and Trade and other agencies and units to connect local businesses to participate in trade fairs and promotional events; introduce products at supply-demand connection programs or exhibition spaces in the locality.
Simultaneously, support will be provided through media channels, product showrooms will be established, and business information will be updated on the city's media platforms.
These activities help businesses gradually improve their standards, increase access to modern distribution channels, and contribute to the sustainable and professional development of the local market.
Thank you for sharing!
