The state-owned company that operates the ship said there were no casualties and no threat to the safety of the reactor.
The fire broke out on Sunday in one of the cabins of the Soviet-made Sevmorput ship, which is currently docked in the northern Russian city of Murmansk, the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry said.

The ministry said the fire, which covered an area of about 30 square meters at its peak, was extinguished without any casualties. “The fire was quickly extinguished. There were no injuries,” Atomflot, the company that owns the ship, said in a statement.
“There is no threat to critical support systems or reactors,” Atomflot also said. The company operates Russia’s nuclear icebreaker fleet and is a unit of state nuclear corporation Rosatom.
The ship, which entered service in 1988 and was extensively upgraded a decade ago, is Russia's only nuclear-powered icebreaker, according to Rosatom.
