Russia successfully launched the new generation Soyuz-5 rocket.

The Soyuz-5 is a medium-sized launch vehicle designed for cargo transport; it can carry up to 17 tons of payload into low Earth orbit and up to 2.5 tons into geostationary orbit.

On the evening of April 30 (Moscow time), the Soyuz-5 medium-sized rocket was successfully launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome, marking the first launch of a new generation rocket within the framework of testing.

According to an announcement by the Russian space agency Roscosmos, the rocket was launched from launch pad number 45 at the Baikonur Space Center.

The Soyuz rocket took 9.5 minutes to deliver its payload into Earth orbit. The first and second stages of the rocket functioned normally, and the model landed in a restricted maritime and airspace zone in the Pacific Ocean.

According to Roscosmos head Dmitry Bakanov, one of the rocket's outstanding features is its high accuracy in delivering payloads into low Earth orbit. The Soyuz-5 launch vehicle was developed in cooperation with Kazakhstan.

The launch of the Soyuz-5 was previously planned for late 2025. The launch date was later adjusted to allow for further testing of both the onboard systems and ground equipment.
