(CLO) Russia is getting closer to its goals in a special military operation in Ukraine, according to TASS news agency, quoting Director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) Sergey Naryshkin on December 10.
In an interview with Razvedchik (Scout) magazine, Mr. Naryshkin stated that the current frontline situation is unfavorable for Ukraine and the Russian army is holding the initiative.
"We are getting closer to our goal, while the Ukrainian armed forces are on the verge of collapse. The (President Volodymyr) Zelenskyy regime has lost its legitimacy and the ability to reach agreements," he said.
He also stressed that any attempt to create instability in Russia had failed. "The Russian people understand that we are not fighting against the Kiev government, but against the collective West. Our freedom and sovereignty are at stake in this confrontation," Mr. Naryshkin added.

Regarding the West's strategic goals in the Ukraine conflict, Mr. Naryshkin said that the West wants to impose a war of attrition to divide Russian society and incite a "color revolution".
The SVR director also said that Western powers are using technology to influence and control public opinion, and put pressure on the elites of other countries.
However, Mr Naryshkin insisted that Western efforts would not lead to the depletion of Russia's resources. "Despite sanctions and the seizure of our assets, the Russian economy is growing. We are rapidly replacing imports, especially in the technological sector," he said.
“In addition, new logistics routes are being established and our economic ties with non-Western countries, especially in the Greater Eurasian region, are being strengthened,” Naryshkin concluded.
Meanwhile, on December 10, the Kremlin announced that the war in Ukraine will continue until the goals set by President Vladimir Putin are achieved through military action or negotiations.
"The special military operation will end when all the goals set by the President and the Commander-in-Chief are achieved. These goals can be achieved through special military operations or as a result of relevant negotiations," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
Mr Putin has demanded that Ukraine abandon its ambitions to join NATO and withdraw its troops completely from four regions of the country that Russia has annexed - terms that Kiev has rejected as surrender.
Mr Peskov said there were currently no talks between Moscow and Kiev taking place because “the Ukrainian side refuses any negotiations”.
