Officially opened on May 19th, the Hoa Khanh Ward Community Digital Library ( Da Nang City) aims to create a multi-functional space for digital learning, experiences, and community activities for residents.
The library is located within the premises of the Hoa Khanh Ward Cultural and Sports Center, at the end of Tran Nguyen Dan Street, and is currently managed and operated by the Hoa Khanh Ward Public Service Center.
The tiered reading space, located right at the library entrance, features a natural lighting system.
The reading room is on the ground floor, designed with bookshelves surrounding it, and a table and chairs in the center.
The Hoa Khanh Ward Community Digital Library is the first ward-level digital library in the country to comprehensively apply modern technology.
According to Mr. Ho Van Y, Deputy Director of the Public Service Supply Center of Hoa Khanh Ward, the project inherited the investment policy of the former Lien Chieu District and developed it based on the model of modern libraries in Ho Chi Minh City.
The highlight of the model lies not only in its reading space but also in its ability to integrate data and apply digital technology in management and operation. Currently, the library has integrated more than 17,000 books into its management software, including 11,317 existing books and 6,244 newly acquired books covering various genres for both children and adults.

According to Mr. Y, all books are being assigned codes for management on the system and data linkage with the Da Nang City Library, aiming to connect with other large libraries nationwide. When completed, the total book collection could expand to approximately 52,000 books.
In addition to digitizing books, the library is also equipped with 6 software programs and 5 applications to support learning, reading, and foreign language learning; it also uses the shared software of the Da Nang City Library and the Lac Viet software, which is part of the new digital library system.

Desktop computers are also provided for readers.
Residents can register for library cards directly or via Zalo to use the integrated electronic card. The entire book borrowing and returning process is done using an automatic barcode scanner; the system will alert users to overdue payments and send notifications via phone. All services, from card issuance to book borrowing, are free.
To better serve its readers, the library has been equipped with 64 iPads, 4 computers, an automated book borrowing and returning system, and security equipment.

Through digital technology, all book borrowing and returning activities at the library are carried out independently by the readers.
Going beyond the traditional library model, this place is also envisioned to become a community cultural center and promote digital transformation at the grassroots level. According to the plan, the library will expand its service hours to be more flexible, aiming for 24/7 operation to meet the needs of various user groups.
Within the approximately 7,000 m² area, the management unit plans to further develop a book cafe model, arrange community living spaces, organize reading clubs, digital skills clubs, foreign language clubs, and STEM clubs for children; and connect with cultural and sports activities to form an ecosystem serving the people.
One of the notable highlights is the interactive technology-based teaching and learning system, featuring three 86-inch touchscreens installed in the library to promote STEM education and revolutionize traditional teaching methods.

Hoa Khanh Ward will provide training for teachers to create experiential technology-based lessons, helping students apply digital technology.
According to Mr. Ho Van Y, instead of just presenting PowerPoint presentations, teachers and students can directly drag and drop, draw shapes, and manipulate the touchscreen. The system is capable of instantly recognizing and responding to correct or incorrect actions of students during the learning process.
The learning resource library currently includes approximately 1,000 interactive lessons. Teachers at various levels can proactively create their own lessons and upload data to the system through their personal accounts for teaching purposes.
"It's important to help students access technology properly, to know how to use digital devices for learning instead of just for entertainment," Mr. Y shared.
The project has a total investment of approximately 10 billion VND, including the construction of facilities, investment in technological equipment, and book resources.
According to the operating unit's vision, the library is not only a place to preserve knowledge but also aims to become a civilized community gathering place, a space for lifelong learning, and a model of grassroots digital transformation in Da Nang.
