With only a few weeks left before the inauguration of phase 1 and the first flight on December 19, important technical items of Long Thanh International Airport are being rushed to completion.

In particular, the radar surveillance system - considered the "magic eye" of flight operations - has been completed, marking an important step in modernizing Vietnam's flight safety infrastructure.

This radar system is one of the key items of component project 2, invested by Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM), in coordination with contractor EASAT Radar Systems Limited (UK).

The staff of Long Thanh Project Management Board, the supervision consultant team, Long Thanh Air Traffic Control Center and foreign experts have completed all mechanical and electronic parts, ensuring technical standards according to the design.

The radar complex includes two of the world's leading advanced technologies: Primary Surveillance Radar (PSR) and Secondary Surveillance Radar (SSR). The system meets ICAO and EUROCONTROL standards, with long scanning range, high accuracy and superior anti-jamming capabilities.

Thanks to that, the radar is capable of detecting and tracking multiple flying targets simultaneously, especially in the large area around Long Thanh airport - predicted to be the place with the densest aviation activity in the country when put into operation.

Once operational, the radar will become the main tool for the Ho Chi Minh Area Control Center (ACC HCM), expanding the surveillance range and improving the quality of flight management in the Ho Chi Minh FIR. Continuous, accurate surveillance data from the system will support air traffic controllers in operating flights safely, smoothly and efficiently, especially in the context of Vietnam's continuing rapid air traffic growth.

This is not only an important technical item that directly supports the exploitation of phase 1 of Long Thanh airport, but also marks a strategic milestone, laying the foundation for a modern, synchronous flight management system according to international standards in Vietnam.

Previously, on October 25 or 26, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam organized calibration flights for VOR/DME systems, radar, ADS-B and traditional flight methods to update and perfect flight methods serving operations at Long Thanh airport.

With the current progress, the surveillance radar system and other key technical items are on schedule, ready to serve the historic moment of December 19, when Long Thanh International Airport officially comes into operation and welcomes its first flight. This will be an important turning point, opening a period of modern development and international integration for the Vietnamese aviation industry.
