During the rubber tree leaf-shedding season, Tuoi Tre Online visited the century-old rubber tree conservation garden of Vietnam's rubber industry in Dau Giay commune, Dong Nai province, to witness the remaining traces of the past.
Many visitors say that seeing the preserved ancient rubber plantations gives them a sense of the development of the rubber industry today. This land has witnessed the lives of countless people who planted rubber trees and collected latex, enduring years of ups and downs, along with sweat and tears.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Dan, Deputy Director of An Loc Team (Dong Nai Rubber Corporation), said that the 120-year-old rubber plantation, once called Suzannah plantation by the French, is still preserved in Dau Giay commune (formerly Dau Giay town, Thong Nhat district). The plantation covers about 8 hectares, with 224 remaining ancient rubber trees.
Planted by the French in 1906, this rubber plantation is now 120 years old and is the only remaining cluster of ancient rubber trees in Vietnam.

According to Mr. Dan, the preservation of this rubber plantation aims to safeguard the traces of the first land where the French set foot to establish rubber plantations, while also serving research purposes and attracting visitors to learn about its historical value.
He said that the place has welcomed many international groups, including French tourists and experts who came to visit and learn about it.
Mr. Pham Van Hoang, Vice Chairman of the Dong Nai Provincial Association of Literature and Arts (formerly Head of the Propaganda Department of the old Long Khanh city), said that according to archived data, in the early 20th century, French capitalists set foot in the Southeast region, including Dong Nai, to exploit forest resources and establish rubber plantations…
Therefore, for over a century, the Long Khánh, Suối Tre, and Dầu Giây areas have not only preserved ancient rubber plantations but also retained traces of French-style buildings such as Suối Tre Hill (Suối Tre Cultural Area), SIPH Hill (SIPH Rubber Company owner's house), the 32-roofed church, and the Ecole (French) primary school…

Referring to the 120-year-old rubber plantation, Mr. Pham Van Hoang said that the centuries-old rubber plantation, which is being preserved, has been mentioned by many generations and has become a historical and ecological rubber plantation.
This ancient rubber plantation was also recognized as a provincial-level historical relic by the People's Committee of Dong Nai province in 2009.
"Currently, the orchard is being preserved and maintained to educate workers in the industry about traditions, serve research purposes, and meet the needs of workers, local people, students, and tourists from all over for sightseeing, experimentation, and outdoor activities," Mr. Hoang shared.
