Cathay United Bank celebrates 20 years of establishment in Vietnam

Cathay United Bank - Ho Chi Minh City Branch (CUBHCM) has just organized a series of events to celebrate 20 years of operation in Vietnam, taking place in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi with the theme "Better Together".

Nearly 400 guests, including representatives of the State Bank's leadership, business leaders and industry partners, attended, affirming Cathay United Bank (CUB)'s deep and long-term commitment to Vietnam.

Since entering the market in 2005 with its first branch in Chu Lai Open Economic Zone, Quang Nam province, CUB has continuously developed and strengthened its presence. In 2022, CUB moved its branch location from Quang Nam to Ho Chi Minh City and changed its name to CUBHCM, marking a strategic shift to penetrate deeper into the domestic market. The upgrading and renovation of the working environment at the Quang Nam Representative Office in 2024 and the Hanoi Representative Office in 2025 continue to affirm CUB's long-term commitment to the Vietnamese market.

Speaking about CUB’s two-decade journey in Vietnam, Mr. Andrew Kuo, Chairman of the Board of Directors of CUB Bank, shared: “CUB is proud to have grown alongside Vietnam’s dynamic economy over the past 20 years. Over the past three years, CUBHCM has achieved impressive double-digit growth, growing strongly in both revenue and profit, demonstrating solid operational performance and strategic focus in Vietnam. By 2025, CUBHCM has cooperated with more than 300 Vietnamese and Taiwanese enterprises, participating in more than 100 syndicated lending projects, including nearly 20 projects as a lead arranger - helping to consolidate its leading position in the foreign banking sector in Vietnam. At the same time, CUBHCM continues to play an important role as a bridge for regional expansion, specializing in the fields of syndicated lending, trade finance and advisory services. For sustainable finance, CUB has affirmed its pioneering role by becoming one of the first banks to apply the Equator Principles. At the same time, the bank has implemented green commercial loan packages (Green Loan) to support projects that are LEED certified and meet environmental standards.

During the event, Ms. Le Thi Thu Thuy, Vice President of Vingroup, congratulated CUB on this memorable milestone, recognizing the bank as a strategic and reliable financial partner during the seven years of cooperation with Vingroup. She appreciated CUB’s expertise in complex syndicated loans, long-term investment thinking, strong regional network and commitment to sustainable partnerships.

Notably, CUBHCM’s efforts in digital development, corporate culture building and social contributions have also brought about outstanding achievements during this period. In 2024, CUBHCM launched the “CUB Vietnam” application, marking a breakthrough in the field of consumer lending. By October 2025, the application had reached 640,000 users and 5 million downloads, making CUBHCM the first Taiwanese-invested bank in Vietnam to provide a complete 100% online (end-to-end) digital lending platform. The application has won four international awards, setting a new benchmark in the field of digital banking.

In addition, CUBHCM won the “Best Companies to Work for in Asia” award at the HR Asia Awards 2025, reflecting the bank’s commitment to employee wellbeing and career development. With nearly 200 employees – 80% of whom are Vietnamese – and a technology team of 40 IT and data professionals, CUB expects to grow its workforce by more than 25% by 2026, strengthening its local operations.

Regarding social responsibility, CUBHCM has persistently implemented the "Nurturing Great Trees Program", a program that has lasted for 17 years. With scholarships worth nearly 13 billion VND awarded to more than 22,000 deserving students, the bank affirms its belief that education is the investment channel that brings the greatest community value.
