Nepal Eye Bank donates 12 corneal tissues to Vietnam

On December 9, Ho Chi Minh City Eye Hospital announced that immediately after receiving corneal tissue from the Nepal Eye Bank, the hospital consulted and successfully performed corneal transplants on 12 patients with long-term severe corneal damage.

The team of specialists performed corneal transplants on these 12 patients using DSAEK endothelial transplantation techniques (replacing the patient's endothelial layer with an endothelial layer containing a portion of the donor's posterior stroma) and penetrating transplantation (replacing the entire thickness of the patient's cornea with the entire thickness of the donor's cornea).

Currently, all corneal transplant recipients have improved vision, patients can be discharged after 3-5 days and patients do not have to pay for the transplant.

According to statistics from Ho Chi Minh City Eye Hospital, over the past 12 years, over 400 corneal transplants have been performed using various techniques, of which 90.2% were manual laborers.
