In recent days, immediately after the flood receded, the Dak Lak province education and training sector coordinated with sectors, units and localities to urgently focus on overcoming the consequences of the flood and called for joint support with books, learning tools, etc. to help students in flooded areas return to school as soon as possible.

The Department of Education and Training of Dak Lak province also directed schools to adjust their make-up teaching plans scientifically and flexibly, ensuring quality, and absolutely not to organize pressure, cut content or put too much pressure on study time for students and teachers.

Heavy damage

According to statistics from the Department of Education and Training of Dak Lak province, as of November 24, the entire education sector of the province recorded 226 units suffering widespread damage, with an estimated total damage to facilities , infrastructure and teaching equipment of up to 178,207 billion VND. Of which, classrooms, fences, welcome gates... are 27,611 billion VND; facilities and teaching equipment such as computers, televisions, printers, student desks and chairs, teacher desks and chairs... are 124,471 billion VND; textbooks and student learning materials such as notebooks, pens, tools, children's toys... are 26,125 billion VND.

Le Trung Kien High School, located on the banks of the Ban Thach River in Dong Hoa Ward, Dak Lak Province, is one of the schools most severely damaged in the recent historic flood. Master Le Tan Dung, Principal of Le Trung Kien High School, said: In the 2025-2026 school year, the school has 27 classes with 1,188 students. During the recent flood, the entire 450m of the school's surrounding fence collapsed; 3 school gates with a length of about 12m were swept away by the flood; the ground in the schoolyard was eroded by about 350m 2 with the volume of soil (sand) eroded by water being about 450m 3 ; 1 mobile swimming pool was destroyed...

In addition, the entire first floor with 12 classrooms, teachers' and students' desks and chairs, computers, photocopiers, printers, etc. were flooded. In particular, all student records such as report cards and grade books were flooded and damaged, causing severe damage.

At Tran Quoc Toan Primary School, Ward 4, Dong Hoa Ward, during the flood days, the water level was 2-2.5m. Rain combined with strong winds caused the front and side walls to collapse. Tables, chairs, equipment, books, library rooms, etc. were submerged in floodwater and completely damaged.

According to the Director of the Department of Education and Training of Dak Lak province, Le Thi Thanh Xuan, from the first days of the floods until now, implementing the direction of the Provincial People's Committee on urgently responding to and overcoming the damage caused by floods to soon stabilize teaching and learning activities, the Department of Education and Training organized many working groups to directly inspect the damage and direct the overcoming of consequences at educational institutions, especially in communes, wards, and areas that were heavily flooded and isolated. When the water receded, school officials and teachers coordinated with units of the Army, Police, union members, youth, and volunteer students to clean up mud, clean classrooms, desks and chairs, repair and fix usable equipment to bring students back to school soon.

Ensuring the program and quality of learning after the flood

Master Le Tan Dung, Principal of Le Trung Kien High School, said: Immediately after the floodwaters receded, the school's staff and teachers coordinated with military units and volunteer students to urgently repair the damage, such as cleaning classrooms, wiping tables and chairs, etc. so that students could return to class.

“Students were off school for a whole week to avoid the flood, so after teaching and learning returned to normal, the school tried to organize make-up classes to ensure students could keep up with the program progress, especially grade 12 students, to help them have enough knowledge to participate in the 2026 high school graduation exam,” Master Le Tan Dung informed.

Teacher Tran Le Phuong Nhi, a teacher at Tran Quoc Toan Primary School, Ward 4, Dong Hoa Ward, shared: In the past few days, right after the flood receded, all teachers coordinated with the army to clear mud, clean classrooms, desks and chairs... to bring students back to school soon. At the same time, the school also planned to teach make-up lessons to ensure the curriculum and learning quality that had been set out at the beginning of the year.

With the support of all levels and sectors, especially the Army, Police, and Youth Union members, youth, and student volunteers, as of 4 p.m. on November 26, the whole province had 32 out of 1,379 facilities temporarily closed to ensure safety and recover from the flood. By November 28, most schools in the flooded areas had returned to school.

However, teaching and learning conditions are extremely difficult in terms of facilities, schools, teaching equipment, books, and learning tools for students. To ensure learning conditions for students after the flood, the Department of Education and Training of Dak Lak province requested the Provincial People's Committee to consider allocating 172,707 billion VND to educational institutions to promptly overcome the consequences of floods and stabilize teaching and learning activities.

In which, it is proposed to allocate 27,611 billion VND to repair damaged structures; 124,471 billion VND to purchase damaged teaching equipment; 11,745 billion VND to support school supplies for 17,400 affected students; 8,880 billion VND to support 111 public kindergartens to purchase initial equipment to quickly restore teaching and learning conditions after the flood.

At the same time, the Provincial People's Committee is requested to direct units to urgently repair, clear and ensure safety of landslide and damaged roads to schools after floods, in order to create conditions for students and teachers to travel safely and soon stabilize teaching and learning. The Ministry of Education and Training and units and organizations should pay attention and create conditions to mobilize social resources to support staff, teachers, employees and students in difficult circumstances due to natural disasters.

To help schools in the flood-affected areas of Dak Lak province overcome the consequences and bring students back to school soon, the Ministry of Education and Training has supported 300 million VND; Vietnam Education Publishing House has committed to supporting textbooks, expected to provide full books by December 4, 2025; Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Joint Stock Company has supported 2 schools that suffered heavy damage, namely Le Duan Primary and Secondary School, Hoa Dong Primary School...

In addition to the support from the Central and local levels, the Department of Education and Training of Dak Lak province has sent a letter calling for support for students in flood-affected areas. Following the Department's call, in recent days, many organizations, individuals and educational institutions in the province that were not affected by the floods have proactively organized fundraising and support activities to share the difficulties with students and teachers in the affected areas.

Schools have flexibly implemented many forms of mobilization such as: donating cash, textbooks, notebooks, uniforms, school bags, school supplies; organizing the program "supporting school after the flood"; mobilizing union members, teachers, and students to participate in contributing according to their ability. Some units also coordinated with parents to support necessities, dry goods, drinking water, blankets and essential items sent to areas that were deeply flooded and severely damaged.

Director of the Department of Education and Training of Dak Lak province, Le Thi Thanh Xuan, said that along with bringing students back to school soon, the Department requested schools in flood-hit areas to base on the instructions for implementing educational tasks for the 2025-2026 school year for each level to adjust the make-up teaching plan scientifically, flexibly, ensuring quality, absolutely not organizing to squeeze, cut content or put too much pressure on study time for students and teachers.

Compensatory teaching must be diversified in forms such as teaching on Saturdays, arranging to teach 2 sessions/day or adding more classes during the day and supporting online teaching (if conditions allow), ensuring the program is completed effectively, in accordance with the psychological characteristics of preschool children and students, students at each level. In particular, strengthening tutoring, supporting students in grades 9 and 12 to consolidate interrupted knowledge, ensuring the mindset to prepare for the entrance exams to grade 10 and the high school graduation exam...

With the attention of all levels, sectors and the cooperation of the whole society, especially the efforts and determination of the staff and teachers, the education and training sector of Dak Lak province is urgently overcoming the consequences of floods, bringing students back to school and adjusting the compensation teaching plan in a scientific and flexible manner, ensuring the curriculum and quality of teaching and learning for the 2025-2026 school year as proposed.
