On February 11th, Cao Viet Hung, Deputy Director of Project Management Board 2 ( Ministry of Construction ), signed Official Letter No. 282 BQLDA2-QNHN addressed to the People's Committees of Quang Ngai and Gia Lai provinces regarding the opening and operation of the Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon section of the North-South Expressway construction project (Eastern section, 2021-2025), to meet the traffic needs of people during the Lunar New Year holiday.
According to Project Management Board 2, the main section of the expressway from Km1050 to Km1138+00 will be officially put into operation at 11:00 AM on February 12th.
Regarding speed limits: On normal roads, the maximum permitted speed is 90 km/h for passenger cars, trucks ≤3.5 tons, and passenger vehicles ≤29 seats; 80 km/h for all sleeper buses and other vehicles; the minimum speed is 60 km/h.
The section ending in the direction of travel, before the toll booth, and other cases comply with road signage.
On the branch roads of the interchange, the maximum speed is 50 km/h and is specified on the road signs; the speed on connecting routes is regulated by the road signs installed on the route.
Vehicles traveling in the North-South direction use the two lanes of the main expressway (each lane 3.5m wide) located on the right side, passing through the interchanges at Km1051+594, the interchange with Provincial Road 624B, the interchange with National Highway 24, the Sa Huynh interchange, and the Hoai Nhon interchange, continuing to the end of the route and entering the Hoai Nhon - Quy Nhon expressway.
Conversely, vehicles traveling on the main highway in the South-North direction use the two lanes of the main highway (each 3.5m wide), located on the right side in the direction of travel (South-North), passing through interchanges along the route such as the Hoai Nhon interchange (leading to National Highway 1), the Sa Huynh interchange, the National Highway 24 interchange, the interchange with Provincial Road 624B, and the Nghia Giang interchange, before continuing to the beginning of the route and entering the Da Nang - Quang Ngai Expressway.
According to Project Management Board 2, the route will not collect tolls yet. There is one toll station at Km1050+600 on this section, which is a temporary toll station serving the closed toll collection system for the Da Nang - Quang Ngai expressway.
During the construction phase, contractors continued to complete the remaining items of the Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon section of the project, including: rest stop system, intelligent transportation system, automatic toll collection, and access roads for local residents throughout the project.
The Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon section of the project commenced in January 2023, with a total investment of over 20,000 billion VND.
The main route includes 3 tunnels. The project starts at Km1050+00 in Nghia Giang commune, Quang Ngai province, and ends at Km1038+00 in Bong Son ward, Gia Lai province, connecting to the Hoai Nhon - Quy Nhon section of the project.
Project Management Board 2 has sent a letter requesting the Traffic Police Department, the authorities of Quang Ngai and Gia Lai provinces, and other relevant agencies to coordinate in ensuring security and order, fire prevention and control, and handling incidents on the expressway.
