
June 21 is International Yoga Day, a resolution co-sponsored by Vietnam and unanimously adopted at the United Nations General Assembly. Over the past decade, International Yoga Day has become a global movement promoting yoga practice for health and well-being around the world , embraced by cultures and continents for its benefits to individuals and society.
Vietnam has been a key partner in spreading the benefits of yoga, expanding its practice and organizing large-scale International Yoga Day celebrations over the past 10 years. The widespread popularity of yoga in Vietnam has created a deep bond between the people of the two countries. Through its IDY celebrations, the Embassy of India in Vietnam promotes healthy lifestyles and spreads the message of peace and harmony – among people, within society and between people and nature.
The 10th International Day of Yoga (IDY) celebration was held in Hanoi on June 21 at Quan Ngua Sports Palace with the participation of Indian Ambassador Sandeep Arya; Ms. Le Thi Hong Van, Secretary General of the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam; Mr. Luu Van Duc, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam-India Parliamentary Friendship Group; Ambassadors of Thailand and Sri Lanka; Senior officials from various organizations and numerous yoga clubs.
The theme of this year’s IDY – “Yoga for One Earth, One Health” – reflects the truth that individual health and planetary health are inseparable. In addition to physical benefits, yoga also brings peace and balance through breathing and meditation techniques, helping people connect body and mind, thought and action, thereby living in harmony with nature.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent a letter to Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressing his gratitude for Vietnam's support and active contributions in promoting yoga over the past decade, and thanked it for embracing and spreading yoga as a common heritage of humanity.
The Embassy of India in Vietnam and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, along with provincial and city authorities have supported and accompanied the series of activities to celebrate the 10th International Day of Yoga.
The Embassy of India in Vietnam also acknowledged the contributions of the Vietnam Yoga Federation, local yoga federations, yoga organizations, media agencies, businesses and individuals who have contributed to raising awareness about yoga among the friendly people of Vietnam.
