Commercial eels and meat eels in Vinh Long province are now back in price, helping eel farmers make a profit. In Vinh Long, eels are mainly raised in the form of mud-free eels in cement tanks and mud-free eels in tarpaulin-lined tanks.

After 8-10 months of raising, when the eels reach a weight of 300-350g/eel, farmers can sell them. Currently, the price of commercial eels (3 eels/kg) is stable at 110,000-120,000 VND/kg. With the current price, on average, farmers earn about 15 million VND for 1,000 eels.

According to eel farmers in Vinh Long, the price of eel has increased in recent months because eel farmers have been losing money for a long time, so many households have not re-farmed. As a result, the supply of commercial eel to the market has decreased. Currently, most eel is sold in Can Tho City and Ho Chi Minh City.

Eel farming, mainly mud-free eel farming in cement tanks and mud-free eel farming in canvas tanks, is expanding in Vinh Long.

Vinh Long province encourages people to raise eels and other aquatic species with high economic value such as snakehead fish, giant freshwater prawns, etc.

Currently, Vinh Long province's commercial eel farming area (meat eel) is concentrated in Long Ho, Mang Thit, Tam Binh, Vung Liem districts, Binh Minh town and Vinh Long city. In which, Vung Liem district has the largest eel farming area in Vinh Long province.
