Compared to the first day, when 150,000 passengers were recorded, the number of people taking metro line 1 on the second day of operation decreased significantly even though Ho Chi Minh City increased the time and number of trips.
This morning (December 24), Urban Railway Company No. 1 (HURC1 Company) updated the operation status of metro line No. 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) after the first day of "disruption".
Specifically, statistics show that on December 23, there were 200 trains running with 38,751 passengers, transporting an average of about 193 passengers/train.
Thus, compared to the first day of metro line 1's official operation, which reached 150,000 passengers, the number of passengers on the second day decreased by nearly 74%. Meanwhile, the number of trains increased by 23 trips and service time increased by 5 hours.
Mr. Le Minh Triet - Director of HURC1 Company said - the number of passengers on metro line No. 1 on the first day of operation reached 150,000 passengers compared to the plan of 27,000 passengers, 5.5 times higher. The reason is that it was Sunday so people had time to experience it. This led to overloading, causing congestion at some stations.
According to Mr. Triet, the decrease in passenger numbers in the following days is inevitable and is expected to reach 40,000 passengers/day, with a train frequency of 200 trips from 5am to 10pm.
"Thus, with the above data, it can be affirmed that metro line 1 meets the proposed plan. In the coming time, I believe that people will form the habit of using public transport, reduce the use of personal vehicles and metro line 1 will attract more passengers. This is not only our desire but also the desire of the city government" - Mr. Triet emphasized.
