November 24th was chosen as Vietnam Culture Day with the aim of making it a paid holiday for workers, allowing people to enhance their cultural enjoyment, encouraging artists to be creative, and promoting a cultured and civilized lifestyle throughout society.
The choice of November 24th as Vietnam Culture Day is not accidental. This is because this day is associated with an important event in the country's history, most notably the first National Cultural Conference in 1946.
Accordingly, on November 24, 1946, the First National Cultural Conference was inaugurated at the Hanoi Grand Theatre. The event brought together more than 200 cultural activists representing the national cultural movement and representatives of the Government and the Standing Committee of the National Assembly.
At this conference, President Ho Chi Minh clearly stated: "Culture illuminates the path for the nation to follow," emphasizing the role of culture in the cause of building, protecting, and developing the country.

After 80 years, the establishment of Vietnam Culture Day on November 24th simultaneously demonstrates the determination of the Party and the State to make culture a shared value of the entire society.
Speaking to Lao Dong newspaper, Associate Professor Bui Hoai Son, a permanent member of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Education , said that establishing November 24th as Vietnam Culture Day is a symbolic decision. However, a symbol only has vitality when it becomes a social institution with energy.
"To make this day less formal, the most important thing is to shift from a 'event-making' mindset to an 'ecosystem-building' mindset, from a single commemorative day to a series of lasting cultural actions that spread throughout families, schools, communities, businesses, and even the digital space," Associate Professor Bui Hoai Son affirmed.
According to experts, achieving this requires addressing three essential issues. Firstly, the people's right to enjoy culture must be at the center. Vietnamese Culture Day should not be just a series of performances for a select few, but should become a "day where everyone can participate in culture."

For example, agencies and organizations can offer free or discounted admission to museums, historical sites, cinemas, and theaters; organize book readings, exhibitions, film screenings, talk shows, and art workshops in residential areas, schools, and cultural centers; and bring high-quality art to remote areas.
" Culture must reach everyone, not just be talked about," Associate Professor Bui Hoai Son emphasized.
Secondly, Vietnamese Culture Day needs to be linked to cultural education and character-building programs, especially in schools. If we only organize performances, seminars, and rallies without engaging the younger generation, it will be very difficult to sustain.
According to Associate Professor Bui Hoai Son, November 24th should become an occasion for each school and each classroom to organize a " Vietnamese culture lesson ": students can learn about local heritage, tell historical stories, perform folk art, create design products based on traditional materials... so that cultural experiences become memories and habits of the younger generation.
"Finally, in the digital age, this should be seen as an opportunity to spread culture online through modern content products: short films, podcasts, digital platforms about heritage, content creation contests about Vietnamese culture, and communication campaigns honoring beautiful behaviors and exemplary conduct. If done well, November 24th will not only be a day for stage performances, but a day when culture 'goes live' strongly, becoming a positive social trend," Associate Professor Bui Hoai Son commented.
Vietnamese Culture Day should help people to have greater access to, greater participation in, greater pride in, and most importantly, to live more culturally in their daily lives.
