Pianist Bich Tra

On the evening of December 7th, in the warm atmosphere of the Theatre – Renaissance International School, pianist Bich Tra presented the audience in Ho Chi Minh City with a visually rich and emotionally profound musical evening: "A Ray of Light from a New Sun".

Audiences and art professionals alike felt that this solo performance allowed them to journey through the universe of music – where light originated from the first notes of Chopin, grew stronger with each piece, and then blossomed in the radiant spirituality of Scriabin.

Each performance is like the sun getting closer and stronger, until at the end of the program, it blazes up as a "new sun"—a symbol of rebirth and inner awakening.

The concert in Ho Chi Minh City also marked a special moment in Bich Tra's artistic journey, before she begins recording Scriabin's works for the international record label Naxos in 2026.

Bich Tra and the works of Chopin – The first rays of light in the darkness

"Scherzo No. 1 in B minor, Op. 20" is the opening piece. Bich Tra's piano playing is like a sudden, violent plunge into a deep abyss, abrupt and startling. Chopin wrote this work in exile, and Bich Tra brings out the very anguish of a person torn from their homeland, thrust into darkness, yet still clinging to a fragile glimmer of hope.

Then, as the central melody rang out – clear, sacred like a prayer – the entire audience seemed to breathe in a faint "ray of light." The stage lights shifted from deep blue to pale yellow, as if the universe were gently touching the hearts of the audience and opening them up. It was that moment when one felt: Light doesn't come from the outside. It comes from within the very place where one has suffered.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi Minh Thai was delighted to meet People's Artist Tra Giang again at the concert of Artist Bich Tra.

Scriabin – A lament from the ashes and the rebirth

"Sonata No. 1 in F minor, Op. 6" – When painful fingers still speak through light. Scriabin composed this sonata while suffering a hand injury, seemingly on the verge of losing his career. Bich Tra highlights that wound, not with self-pity, but with the musical vitality struggling against fate. In particular, the final Funèbre movement resonates like a memorial to shattered dreams, but the deep, somber notes are handled by her like glowing embers – beneath the ashes, a light has begun to flicker.

The audience not only heard but also saw: the lighting shifted to a reddish-purple hue, like smoldering ashes. A moment of silence descended upon the theater after the final note – true to Scriabin's nature: painful yet transcendent.

Bich Tra with "Ballade No. 1" – The battle between storms and tender memories.

The work presents a different Chopin: dramatic, narrative, and full of turmoil. Artist Bich Tra chooses not to showcase technical skill, but instead to guide emotions seamlessly: at times like raging waves, at other times like a thin mist of memory. In the intense finale, the stage lights suddenly flash brightly – like the moment a person sees a "new sun" after a journey of trials. A Chopin who is very human, very real, and also very… radiant.

"Piano Sonata No. 3" – When the storm has passed, the light remains.

Chopin's Sonata No. 3 has always been considered the epitome of mastery and inner maturity. In Bich Tra's hands, the piece becomes more tranquil, more human, like a contemplative reflection after all the storms have passed. The audience seems to float in a "starry midnight," light and profound. And "Scriabin Sonata No. 4" shows when the soul takes flight towards the radiant sun.

If Chopin opened the first rays of light, then Scriabin was the one who painted the sun.

A night of darkness, light, and rebirth.

The music program "A Ray of Light from a New Sun" is not simply about auditory and visual themes. It embodies the spirit of the entire program: darkness as the starting point, music as the journey, and light as the destination – a destination not outside the universe, but within the hearts of the listeners.

Artist Bich Tra offered the audience in Ho Chi Minh City an experience of music that was not just for enjoyment, but for reflection, self-reflection, and healing. For nearly two hours, she guided listeners from human suffering (Chopin) to transcendental aspiration (Scriabin) – from darkness to a "new sun".

"It's not just the journey of Chopin or Scriabin, but also the journey of each of us, souls who love music and wholeheartedly dedicate our feelings to artist Bich Tra because she has found her own path of light, and from there spread it deeply to the hearts of listeners," said Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi Minh Thai.

Most people agree that the presence of artist Bich Tra in this space has brought beautiful melodies, accompanied by stories told through sound, layers of emotion settled through each piano key, and moments that will remain in the listener's memory for a long time.

People's Artist Tra Giang – the mother of artist Bich Tra – said: "Art only truly has meaning when it is shared, supported, and empowered by empathetic hearts. Once again, I would like to express my most sincere gratitude for the love that everyone has shown to Bich Tra."
