Speaking to VietNamNet reporters, family members confirmed that artist Hong Phuc passed away at 2 PM on May 3rd in O Mon Ward, Can Tho City, due to a serious illness, at the age of 28. The family is preparing for the funeral and, due to their distress, has requested not to share further details.
Director Tran Tri said that Hong Phuc had been ill for a long time. About a month ago, he secretly sought treatment at a hospital in Can Tho without telling his family.
When his condition worsened, Hong Phuc was transferred to Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City for treatment four days ago. The doctors gave a poor prognosis and agreed to allow his family to bring him back to his hometown.
On her personal page, choreographer Phuong Hong Lac - a member of the Vietnam Dance Artists Association - wrote: "I prayed for you so much, hoping for a miracle, but you left me too quickly! There are still so many things we haven't been able to accomplish together, Phuc!"

Artist Hong Phuc, whose full name is Mai Dao Hong Phuc, graduated from the 4th class of the Dance Acting major, Faculty of Music and Dance, Can Tho College of Culture and Arts in 2024.
After graduating, he joined The Time Dance Company. In his profession, he was regarded as a dedicated, humble, passionate, and optimistic person.
The passing of artist Hong Phuc at a time when his future was so promising has left many of his colleagues deeply saddened.
