
In 1959, he began his artistic journey by joining the amateur theater troupe of poet Hoang Cam and writer Nguyen Huy Tuong. Later, he joined the Hanoi Performing Arts Troupe. Subsequently, after the Hanoi Theater Troupe was separated, artist Pham Bang became famous for his villainous roles. In late 1974 and early 1975, Pham Bang transferred to the Central Drama Troupe.
He won two gold medals at the National Theatre Festival for his roles as the village headman in the play "The Soul of Truong Ba, the Butcher" and as Thuong in "Thuong's Life". In film, he made his mark in the movies "The Feast of the Saints" and "Motherland".
Despite his advanced age, he still appears healthy and enthusiastic in his roles. Pham Bang is known to audiences in many roles, including film, stage, and comedy acting. He is also widely recognized through the "Meeting at the Weekend" program on Vietnam Television. In 1993, he was awarded the title of Meritorious Artist.
Reportedly, two months ago, artist Pham Bang was hospitalized in Ho Chi Minh City. Doctors only agreed to let him return home to Hanoi a few days ago. According to artist Pham Bang at the time, his liver health was not as serious as his gallbladder, and he had to stay home for treatment until the end of this year. He also expressed his gratitude to the audience for their concern.
