The exhibition "Dinh Phong Painting and Sculpture" will take place on November 30 in Hanoi , introducing 31 new works created in the past 5 years by Dinh Phong.

Experts say this is a remarkable art event, marking the energetic transformation of a person who chose art as a way of life, a dialogue with matter, emotions and the universe.

Born in Hanoi but successfully established his career in Ho Chi Minh City, artist Dinh Phong taught himself by watching, reading, and exchanging with previous artists, nurturing his admiration and spirit of constant exploration .

The artist did not name the painting, but let the viewer feel it for themselves.

The volume of works he creates surprises many people, because with bronze sculptures, stainless steel or other complex materials, achieving such a large quantity requires persistent labor intensity and continuous creativity.

With that amount of work, only through constant practice, without even setting an artistic goal, can one produce so much.

“I came to art out of an inner urge, without any intention or plan. I am self-taught, and believe that art has no fixed theory. For me, art is a passion. It cannot be explained. I also do not name my paintings, because that would be imposing my feelings. I want viewers to be free to think,” the artist shared.

Regarding sculpture, the artist believes: “Hollowness and solidity are the characteristics of sculpture. I intend to create shapes inside the hollow space so that light can pass through, creating a very strong visual effect.”

As someone who has followed artist Dinh Phong’s journey since the early days, sculptor Dao Chau Hai commented: “Issues of creative thinking or artistic ideas seem to be less important than practicing according to personal feelings. The value of a work is determined by the emotions it reveals, something that not every artist can achieve. And that is the most precious thing about Dinh Phong’s art.”

Exhibition curator and researcher Vu Huy Thong believes that the shift in materials in this exhibition is the highlight. If in the past, Dinh Phong mainly used acrylic on canvas and relied on a strange system of abstract shapes, then in this exhibition, most of the works are made of metal. Nearly 15 large-scale paintings (some exceeding 10m2) and 17 bronze-stainless steel statues create a "difficult to explain complex" because of the abundance in practice.

"In Dinh Phong's paintings and sculptures, the physical structure transforms and changes strangely when considering the visual psychology of light/dark, solid/empty, big/small rhythms according to the logic of balance and harmony. It is possible that the emphasis on continuous practice has brought about unexpected results," said researcher Vu Huy Thong.

The exhibition opens at 10am on November 30 and lasts until December 14 at Art Space, Vietnam University of Fine Arts, 42 Yet Kieu, Hanoi./.

In addition to the joint exhibition with sculptor Dao Chau Hai (Vietnam University of Fine Arts, Hanoi, 2022), to date, Dinh Phong has had 3 solo exhibitions: "Flying Man and Surreal Dream" (Vietnam University of Fine Arts, Hanoi, 2020), "Surreal Dream" ( Ho Chi Minh City Museum of Fine Arts, 2021), "Dinh Phong Painting - Sculpture" (Vietnam Museum of Fine Arts, Hanoi, 2025).
