Decree 168 helps reduce accidents and raise awareness of traffic compliance

Việt NamViệt Nam18/04/2025

Breakthrough changes

Traffic Police and Provincial Police launched a campaign to control alcohol concentration violations in Bac Kan city.

During the recent campaign to control alcohol concentration violations by the Traffic Police force, the Provincial Police recorded clear changes in people's compliance with regulations on not drinking alcohol when participating in traffic. Of the hundreds of vehicles stopped by the functional forces to check alcohol and drug concentrations, only 1 car driver and 4 motorbike drivers were handled for this violation. Compared with the number of dozens of cases handled for alcohol concentration violations before Decree 168 took effect at each checkpoint, the change in traffic participants is clear. The majority of people who have drunk alcohol do not directly drive vehicles but choose to travel by taxi or have someone else drive. Of the 18 traffic accidents in the first quarter of 2025 in the province, only 2 were related to alcohol concentration, a decrease of 5 cases compared to the same period in 2024.

Mr. Ngo Quang Trung, residing in Duc Xuan ward, Bac Kan city, shared about accepting
enforce the law when Decree 168 comes into effect

Not only have violations of alcohol concentration decreased, but violations that directly lead to traffic accidents such as speeding, running red lights, weaving... have also decreased significantly when Decree 168 of the Government came into effect. Observing at intersections and crossroads with traffic light systems, people's awareness of compliance has clearly changed. Even when there are no authorities present or when there are few people, the situation of running red lights has decreased significantly.

Reduce traffic accidents

After more than 3 months of implementing Decree 168, there have been many changes in traffic law compliance. Fines have increased sharply, authorities have increased patrols, controls and strict handling with the motto "no forbidden zones, no exceptions", combined with propaganda andeducation, which have contributed to improving understanding and compliance of traffic participants in both urban and rural areas.

Statistics from the Traffic Police Department, Provincial Police show that in the first 3 months of 2025, there were 18 traffic accidents in the province, killing 7 people and injuring 22 people, a decrease of 16 cases compared to the same period in 2024. The authorities detected and handled more than 2,600 violations, a decrease of more than 1,500 cases compared to the same period in 2024. Dangerous violations such as alcohol concentration, running red lights, speeding... have all decreased significantly, in some places by 30 - 40%, proving that people's awareness of obeying traffic laws is being raised.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Hoa - Deputy Head of Traffic Police Department, Provincial Police
indicate the effectiveness of Decree 168

The beautiful figures and images of people participating in traffic have partly shown the effectiveness of Decree 168. If we only rely on solutions for propaganda and legal education, we will not achieve the desired positive results. Heavy sanctions with enough deterrence will make traffic participants further raise their awareness of obeying traffic laws./.
