Born and raised in a time when his family and country were facing many difficulties, Mr. Phung Van Thanh always understood the losses of people when natural disasters struck. Therefore, when witnessing the flood that devastated many provinces in the South Central region in recent days, he quickly donated 3 tons of rice and 10 million VND in cash to help people overcome the most difficult time.
Mr. Thanh shared: “I am not rich, but after the flood, what people need most is rice to eat every day. The rice was soaked and damaged, so I think donating rice is the most practical.” For him, each bag of rice is not only a necessity, but also a warm human love for families struggling to restore their lives.
That heart was multiplied when the whole family supported his act. His son said: "Dad, you can support as much as you want, as long as you are happy." His mother, though 84 years old, still earnestly asked her son to take her to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Phuc Loc commune to deposit some of her savings to contribute to the community. "That makes me very happy and proud," Mr. Thanh said emotionally.
As a member of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Phuc Loc Commune, Mr. Thanh is regularly present at the Committee headquarters these days to help receive donations from the people. He shared: “Every day, many people come to donate. Some people are not well-off, but still bring a box of instant noodles. That spirit makes me very touched.”
Not only in natural disasters, Mr. Phung Van Thanh has been a pioneer in local volunteer activities for many years. Yesterday (November 28), I received a donation of 30 million VND for Van Phuc Primary School to renovate its campus to prepare for the title of national standard school level 2. It is known that during the Covid-19 pandemic, Mr. Thanh also actively contributed to the work of epidemic prevention and control. In particular, as Head of the Van Coc Communal House Management Sub-Committee, he and his family donated 2 billion VND and mobilized an additional 1.3 billion VND from the people to renovate the ancient communal house.
Not only generous in charity activities, Mr. Thanh is also known for his deep understanding of folk culture, especially in the field of traditional beliefs. In 2022, he was awarded the title of Meritorious Artisan in the field of "Social customs and beliefs" by the President . With his rich knowledge and enthusiasm, he often helps people practice rituals in filial piety and joy; at the same time, he teaches people in the area the cultural values of their ancestors. "My passion for folk culture has captivated me since I was a child. I love to learn about communal houses, temples, shrines, pagodas, worship rituals... and want to pass them on to those who want to learn," he shared.
With his persistent and sincere contributions, Mr. Phung Van Thanh has received many awards and gratitude from the local government and people. But for him, the greatest joy is to contribute his small part to beautify human love and neighborly love.
