In December, the 33rd SEA Games will take place in Thailand. This country has just hosted the 2025 Women's Volleyball World Championship and received a lot of praise for its professionalism and grandeur.
The Thai women's volleyball team also had a not-so-bad journey, passing the group stage and being eliminated in the round of 16.
Some of the venues used for the recent World Cup will be reused for the SEA Games, a huge advantage for Thailand, which has won consecutive gold medals in women's volleyball since 1989.
Sharing with the press recently, striker Sasiraporn made confident statements. She affirmed that she is not too worried about the threat from the Vietnamese women's volleyball team.
The athlete born in 1997 said: "Defending the championship at the SEA Games is a mandatory task. We focus all our energy on defeating our opponents. Thailand is not worried about facing Vietnam but only wants to focus on ourselves.
If the Thai team has a good system, well implemented in all stages, they will defeat all opponents. I am not putting anyone down, I just want to focus on my own preparation."
This year has been a year of many contrasts for Sasiraporn. Although she was an important member of the Thai women's volleyball team, she was unexpectedly eliminated from the original plan by coach Kiattipong.
It was not until the Women's Volleyball World Championship that he changed his mind and called up Sasirporn. In the tournament on home soil, the 1997-born striker played extremely well, especially in defense, to help the Thai team pass the group stage.
For a long time, Thai women's volleyball has always held the position of "big sister" in the Southeast Asian region. From the SEA Games or SEA V.League arenas, they have always been the dominant team even though there were times when their performance declined.
But this year, that position is seriously threatened by the Vietnamese women's volleyball team. In August, in the second round of the SEA V.League, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet's team came from behind to defeat Thailand to win the championship for the first time. This created a psychological momentum that could help the Vietnamese girls hope to make a miracle at the SEA Games at the end of the year.
