People hand over rare red-faced monkeys and monkeys

Pu Mat National Park (Nghe An province) said that on the morning of November 13, the unit received two adult red-faced monkeys and a macaque from Anh Son Commune Police and Anh Son Forest Protection Department. These two individuals were discovered and captured by local people of Anh Son Commune when they strayed into a house.

Specifically, on the morning of November 13, Ms. Vi Thi Hoan (born in 1963, resident of Kim Tien village, Anh Son commune) and Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa (born in 1994, resident of Kim Nhan 4 village, Anh Son commune) discovered and kept safe one red-faced monkey and one adult macaque when they strayed into the family's house and garden.

Immediately after receiving the information, Anh Son Commune Police and Anh Son Forest Protection Department went directly to the area, to each household to propagate and raise awareness among people about the importance of protecting wildlife and biodiversity; at the same time, mobilized households to voluntarily hand over these two monkeys to the authorities.

On the same afternoon (November 13), the authorities handed over two individuals of red-faced macaques and a mottled macaque to Pu Mat National Park for experts to care for and monitor their health at the Wildlife Conservation Facility and complete the required legal procedures and documents before releasing them back into the wild.

According to Mr. Le Anh Tuan, Director of Pu Mat National Park, the voluntary handover of rare and precious monkeys by the above individuals demonstrates the awareness and responsibility of the people and the community and contributes practically to the efforts to conserve wildlife and protect biodiversity. When people discover wild, rare and precious animals that are lost or illegally kept or traded, they should contact the authorities to be handled in accordance with the law and promptly bring life to wild animals.

The red-faced macaque (Macaca arctoides) and the macaque (Macaca assamensis) are endangered, precious, and rare animals in group IIB (according to Decree No. 06/2019/ND-CP, dated January 22, 2019 of the Government on the management of endangered, precious, and rare forest plants and animals and the implementation of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora), listed in the Vietnam Red Book, and listed in the Red Book of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN). These two monkey species play an important role in Vietnam's biodiversity ecosystem.
