According to News.com.au on November 18, videos of Mr. Jason Harrigan showing off the results of cosmetic surgery in Vietnam that significantly changed his face have "caused a storm", flooding social networking sites in Australia.
Videos filmed over a period of seven days by a 57-year-old man who works as a shipper for Coles and lives in Gold Coast (Queensland, Australia) show his face right after undergoing a series of cosmetic surgeries in Vietnam.
The videos almost all start with the phrase “hi, I’m Jason from Australia.” In each TikTok clip, he appears next to a different doctor, most of whom say they helped him get a new face.
The videos were meant to promote a cosmetic surgery clinic where Mr. Harrigan had undergone surgery. The report did not name the facility.
"What's going on here? I just saw him thanking another doctor, and the pre-op photo in that video looks different," another person commented.
Mr Harrigan said that despite the online chaos, he was very happy with the results of the surgery. The shipper shared that he chose to have the surgery in Vietnam because he could not afford the cost in Australia. The surgery lasted 7 hours.
In his home country, he was quoted $37,000 for a facial cosmetic surgery, while the same procedure in Vietnam would cost only about $1,500. A forehead lift costs another $1,500, and upper and lower eyelid lifts are $1,000, according to the Daily Mail .
"I was really sad about my appearance, I didn't have much confidence, then I came across this doctor's TikTok and started following. It went on like that for months, I researched and finally decided to go ahead in August," he said.
After booking a flight and landing in Hanoi , Mr. Harrigan was counseled and elected to remain awake throughout the lengthy surgery.
Immediately after landing, the team of doctors removed nearly 6.5 cm of excess skin on the forehead, removed sagging skin and bags on the eyelids, and tightened the neck and face.
"Then they told me to make a TikTok video, and I said 'okay, why not, no one will see me'. Unexpectedly, right after that, people sent me screenshots asking if I was in Vietnam, and those videos got millions of views," he said.
Over the next week, Mr. Harrigan visited the clinic several times a day for checkups, each one performing a different procedure on his face. And each time, the doctors asked for more video.
“I explained to the doctor that the reason I wanted a facelift was because I hadn’t taken a family photo in 20 years. This surgery was for me, and the change in my confidence was incredible,” he shared.
Now, three months later, he is delighted with the results. “A few days ago, I video-called my mother, and she said, ‘Oh my gosh, your face is so beautiful.’ It looked a bit fake at first, but now everything has settled down completely,” he said.
Social media was also delighted with Mr Harrigan's new look. "From a 40-year-old dad to a 20-year-old YouTuber," one commenter said.
