Ho Chi Minh City approved a project worth more than 53 billion VND to install 8 elevators at 7 pedestrian overpasses of metro line 1.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction has just issued Decision No. 1130/QD-SXD-QLDS approving the project to build and install elevators at pedestrian overpasses on metro line No. 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien). The project has a total investment of more than 53.4 billion VND, using the Ho Chi Minh City budget, with the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board as the investor, and will be implemented in the period of 2024 - 2025.

The first 8 elevators will be installed at 7 pedestrian overpass locations along metro stations No. 1.

According to the Department of Construction, the project aims to improve convenience and ensure safety and convenience for passengers, especially the disabled, the elderly, pregnant women and children when traveling to the elevated stations of metro line No. 1. The addition of an elevator system also aims to attract people to participate in public transport, creating conditions for the first metro line of Ho Chi Minh City to be effective after official operation.

The project includes 8 elevators installed at 7 pedestrian overpass locations near Tan Cang, An Phu, Rach Chiec, Binh Thai, High-Tech Park and National University stations, located in Thanh My Tay, Binh Trung, Phuoc Long and Tang Nhon Phu wards. The elevators have a design load of 1,000 kg, including 2 stops, using reinforced concrete frame and roof structure, elevator walls made of electrostatically painted steel combined with tempered glass. The operating power source is connected from the public lighting system or the station's electricity.

The total construction investment of the project is 53.47 billion VND, of which construction cost is more than 8.88 billion VND, equipment cost is more than 27.36 billion VND, the rest is consulting cost, project management, other costs and contingency.

According to the design, each installation location will be arranged with a safe connection for pedestrians, a waiting hall, a canopy and a protective railing. The elevator system is equipped with remote surveillance cameras, announcement sounds, and a submersible pump to prevent flooding of the pit to ensure safety, convenience for users and synchronization with the existing infrastructure of metro line No. 1.

The Department of Construction assigned the Urban Railway Management Board to take full responsibility for project implementation, contractor selection, cost management, quality and construction progress, and coordinate with departments, branches and technical infrastructure units to handle and relocate affected works, ensuring safety and progress. The project also requires public disclosure of investment information to serve community supervision, avoiding budget loss and waste.

The Department of Finance is assigned to coordinate capital allocation and advise on spending plans according to schedule, while the Department of Agriculture and Environment is responsible for inspecting, guiding and supervising the implementation of environmental protection measures throughout the construction process.
