Dr. Mai Xuan Phu is currently living and working in Luxembourg, one of Europe's leading countries in innovation, AI, and attracting high-tech talent. Dr. Mai Xuan Phu stated that one of the reasons for Luxembourg's success in attracting talent in AI and other fields in general is the long-term, astute development orientation of its leaders, coupled with the early enactment of a legal framework that creates a testing ground for new fields.
“I am particularly impressed by the closely integrated research-business-government ecosystem here. Specifically, the government issues the legal framework, funds research, and sets specific problems. Universities and research institutes collaborate with businesses to conduct research projects based on real problems and real data, thereby producing real products,” shared Dr. Mai Xuan Phu.
Mai Xuan Phu's journey in the field of information technology began as a student in the Faculty of Information Technology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Science . After graduating with a Master's degree from the Francophone Institute of Informatics, from 2011 to 2016, Xuan Phu worked as a lecturer at Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Ho Chi Minh City University of Science. In September 2016, he went to Luxembourg to pursue a PhD at the University of Luxembourg, and subsequently joined Jemmic (headquartered in Itzig, Luxembourg). This company specializes in providing key software solutions such as Usafe and Conversational Framework. At Jemmic, Xuan Phu served as QA Manager, responsible for building strategies and processes to ensure comprehensive quality for the Conversational Framework platform – a system supporting customer communication and interaction – along with the Usafe platform for identity management and access control. These two products currently serve over one million users in banks and hospitals in Switzerland and Germany.
During his 10 years working in this environment, Xuan Phu was also invited to speak at professional events such as the Luxembourg Software Testing Event 2025 and talk shows about career journeys. Dr. Mai Xuan Phu believes: “These events are important opportunities to connect deeply with the international professional community. Through direct exchanges with experts, engineers, and managers from many different countries and fields, I also have the opportunity to update myself on the latest trends in my professional field. When participating in events aimed at the domestic community, especially students and young people in the industry, I consider this a way to promote the development of human resources and science and technology in Vietnam.”
Based on international experience, Xuan Phu believes that, both now and in the future, AI will not only replace some jobs but also create many new employment opportunities. Workers need to improve their technological, analytical, creative, and collaborative skills with AI to adapt and advance their careers, rather than worrying that AI will eliminate jobs. AI will be increasingly integrated into software, making software quality assurance even more essential. “In my opinion, Vietnam should soon establish a National Software and AI Accreditation Center. This center would play a role in developing a set of software and AI quality criteria according to international standards, issuing in-depth testing guidelines, providing testing services, transparent certification, gradually applying mandatory requirements for AI systems, and leveraging and disseminating best practices from leading domestic businesses.”
This is also the passion that Dr. Mai Xuan Phu will bring to the "Promoting Vietnam-EU Science, Technology and Trade Cooperation" conference held in Brussels on March 7th. "I am ready to contribute my expertise and work together to improve software quality and promote the sustainable development of Vietnam's technology industry," Dr. Mai Xuan Phu shared.
