The Spring Calligraphy Festival of the Year of the Horse 2026 kicked off on February 11th, opening to visitors from morning to afternoon. The opening ceremony took place in the afternoon of February 11th, featuring many lively performances. Besides the familiar rituals, the Spring Calligraphy Festival invited People's Artist Thanh Lam and a DJ to perform. Mr. Le Xuan Kieu, Director of the Cultural and Scientific Activities Center of Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giám, stated that the Center is gradually innovating and diversifying its activities to become a safe and attractive destination for both locals and tourists.

A highlight of the Spring Calligraphy Festival is the activity of requesting auspicious calligraphy at 35 calligraphy booths. The Spring Calligraphy Festival is marked by comprehensive innovation in its spatial organization and content. The Ho Van Lake area has been renovated and upgraded. The functional areas are scientifically planned, including a painting exhibition area, a heritage experience space, a traditional craft village experience area, an auspicious calligraphy area, and a culinary culture introduction area.
The calligraphers participating in the Spring Calligraphy Festival of the Year of the Horse 2026 all had to go through two rounds of selection by the organizing committee. Among them were several individuals who had participated in the Spring Calligraphy Festival for many years, such as Kieu Quoc Khanh, Lai The Hung, Do Van Tu, Nguyen Van Tu, Nguyen Duc Vong, Nguyen Van Thuyet, Le Tat Anh, Truong Thinh, Ngo Quoc Dung, and Hoang Anh Diep.


She was the only woman among the group of 35 calligraphers.
Ms. Hoang Anh Diep is the only woman among the 35 calligraphers. Speaking to reporters, Ms. Diep said she has been involved in calligraphy at the Temple of Literature - National University since 2008. She is also the first woman to undertake this activity at the historical site.
"I came to calligraphy by chance. When I was teaching Literature, I wanted to teach students classical literature, so they needed to understand Chinese characters. I looked for a teacher, a place to learn, starting with basic knowledge, and then found a brush to practice calligraphy," Ms. Diep said.


Tourists ask for calligraphy, hoping for good luck and positive things to come in the new year.
Visitors to the Spring Calligraphy Festival often ask calligraphers for messages of peace, good fortune, and prosperity. Children ask for calligraphy with the hope of excelling in their studies.
With the theme of "National Studies," the Spring Calligraphy Festival emphasizes the special role of the Temple of Literature - National Academy in the history of national education , affirming the tradition of respecting teachers and valuing talented individuals.
